Job Summary

The Executive Editor plots the course and sets the tone for a newsroom which is observant, proactive, reports at ground-level, advances stories, unpacks complex systems, helps our region understand its humanity and connectedness, and sees and celebrates joy. Both radio and digital content will fall under the responsibility of this position.

Job Responsibilities


  • Create the vision for the newsroom, setting clear long- term priorities
  • Lead the newsroom’s pivot to digital while invigorating our broadcast sound
  • Determine effective workflow protocol between news desk and daily show
  • Craft newsroom policies and procedures
  • Keep teams accountable on story standards
  • Set performance expectations


  • Build a culture of critique and staff care
  • Identify training and professional development opportunities
  • Empower managers to handle personnel conflicts productively
  • Develop and implement strategy for platform distribution
  •  Serve as newsroom liaison for interdepartmental communication and collaboration
  • Plan and monitor newsroom budget
  • Work with Human Resources and Finance departments on compensation structure

Community Engagement

  • Seek and manage force-multiplying newsroom partnerships
  • Lead content interaction with community

  • 3 + years of newsroom management experience
  • 6 + years of journalism experience, preferably including public broadcasting.
  • Work experience with multiple news related roles
  • Communications and Media
  • Experience leading a diverse newsroom
  • Change management
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented self-starter
  • Recruitment and retention of early to mid-career journalists
  • English Language
  • Project management / planning
