Job Summary

The Executive Director of Programming and Dean of the Chapel, The Upper Room Center for Christian Spiritual Formation contributes to the overall growth and wellbeing of The Upper Room Center for Christian Spiritual Formation, a unit of The Upper Room, by encouraging and demonstrating leadership in strategic planning (defining objectives and key results) and financial soundness. This role supervises lead Program staff of the Center to strengthen alignment among work teams and identify solutions to increase organizational capacity in responding naturally and effectively to existing and/or new initiatives with a posture of adaptive leadership in the areas of adult discipleship and spiritual formation.  The Executive Director serves as Dean of the Chapel, is responsible for teaching and writing in the areas of prayer and spiritual formation and serves as a productive member of The Upper Room core leadership team.

Job Responsibilities

The successful candidate must have knowledge of the United Methodist Church (UMC), publishing industry, editorial skills, Christian theology, UM theology, ministry and practice, spiritual formation and discipleship, cultural diversity and contextualization. Adaptive leadership, strategic planning, team building and alignment.  Deep knowledge of UM church leaders, networks, relationships, other UM agencies, and protocols.  Experience practicing and teaching Christian theology, UM theology and ministry practice. Outstanding leadership, management, and organizational skills.

Qualifications

Education / Experience

Master’s Degree or equivalency; preferred PhD. Ordained Elder (or ecumenical equivalent)  

Six to ten years of deep knowledge and familiarity with United Methodist agencies/systems.
