Wesley is seeking a passionate, strategic, pastoral leader to serve as our next Executive Director and Campus Minister.  The primary role of the Wesley Executive Director/Campus Minister is to continue to build and nurture a welcoming student faith community that promotes spiritual growth, by planning and executing Wesley programming and worship, providing pastoral care, and encouraging student leadership.  Additionally, the Executive Director/Campus Minister will excel at developing relationships with and nurturing the engagement of local churches and working with the Board of Directors on organizational oversight and fundraising.

Job Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Organizational Development:

  • Develop and implement a strategic plan in collaboration with staff and Board to accomplish the Wesley Foundation’s mission and goals;
  • Ensure the Wesley’s values (community, hospitality, and spiritual growth) are embodied in all aspects of the Wesley’s work together;
  • Communicating effectively with the Board and providing, in a timely and accurate manner, all information necessary for the Board to function properly and make informed decisions including quarterly goal updates;
  • Work with the Board to ensure the hiring and development of competent, qualified staff;
  • Lead and align staff and volunteers for successful implementation of programs to accomplish the Wesley’s goals;
  • With Board establish and apply appropriate staff and ministry policies and procedures;
  • Oversee all ministry communications and marketing with both students and other ministry partners;
  • Work with the Board to develop and manage the annual operating budget to meet organizational needs and objectives;
  • Lead fundraising efforts to offset budgetary needs including fundraising activities such as grant writing, donor cultivation, and maintaining donor relations;
  • Oversee fiscal management including operating within the approved budget, maximizing resource utilization, and providing the Finance Committee and Board monthly financial statements;
  • Ensure with the Boards support that the Wesley buildings are properly maintained and managed;
  • Serve as liaison between campus ministry and the university;
  • Build connections between the Wesley students and local congregations, the Wesley students and conference programming (camps, missions, etc.), and the Wesley and strategic partners who maximize the mission;
  • Maintain relationships between the Wesley and its alumni.

Programming:

  • Create a welcoming and safe community for students of all backgrounds, faith traditions, races, gender identities, and sexual orientations into the Wesley community;
  • Initiate, develop, and implement programs that lead to the spiritual growth of students;
  • Provide regular programming opportunities for worship, discipleship, fellowship, and service;
  • Develop student leadership opportunities and a cultural of vocational development;
  • Ensure the Wesley has a presence at all campus activities and provides outreach that invites students into the Wesley community.

Pastoral Care:

  • Provide pastoral care and leadership for the community;
  • Resource students with a network of mental health care providers and counselors;
  • In times of crisis and tragedy, provide pastor support to the university.

Qualifications

Expectations and requirements for the successful candidate include:

  • Pastoral and strategic ministry leadership experience and skills.
  • Excellent communication and listening skills.
  • Experience in budget oversight and fundraising.
  • Experience and demonstrated ability to develop leadership and accountability in students.
  • 5 years’ experience in campus or higher education ministry, church leadership or other relevant non-profit leadership.
  • Master of Divinity or seminary degree preferred, but other relevant Master’s degrees and/or years of experience may be considered.  The position is open to both ordained United Methodist elders or deacons and lay members who meet experience requirements.
