Job Summary

The Executive Director is responsible for coordinating overall senior center programs and activities to meet the goals and objectives set forth by the Board of Directors and by the contract for state and federal grant funding. The Executive Director serves as the primary liaison to the community, including organizations, businesses, elected officials, and others, on behalf of senior citizens and their needs in the community.

Job Responsibilities

  • Daily management of senior center programs, activities, facilities, and development of the center's overall work plan;
  • Oversee senior center staff and volunteers, paid or unpaid, and manage senior center personnel issues; 
  • Attend and participate in training as required by the Tennessee Commision on Aging & Disability (TCAD), the South Central Tennessee Development District/Area Agency on Aging & Disability (SCTDD/AAAD), and any other grant-funding authority;
  • Provide support to the Board of Directors, facilitate all regular and special called meetings of the Board and its committees, and keep minutes and other records of Board and Committee meetings on file;
  • Coordinate educational, recreational, and health promotion activities, and provide all other senior center services required under contract for state and federal grant funding;
  • Development and implement senior center special events/programs, such as open house, festivals, exhibits, concerts, field trips, health fairs, and new innivative programming;
  • Conduct marketing and outreach activities by making presentations to community groups, networking with organizations, submitting newspaper articles, social networling, website postings, and distributing a monthly newsletter;
  • Maintain accurate participant and service records, and report required information in the statewide database (SAMS), as required by State;
  • Ensure proper maintenance of equipment, as well as cleanliness and safety of senior center facilities;
  • Develop and manage the senior center operating budget and submit all required financial reports to the appropriate grant-funding entity in a timely manner;
  • Secure financial support for programs through grants, fundraising activities, sponsorships, etc. and maintain documentation on all monetary and in-kind support received;
  • Ensure that programs and services provided adhere to federal, state and local policies, contracts, and laws, and cooperate with on-site monitoring visits concucted by the SDTDD?AAAD and/or TCAD to ensure compliance;
  • Recruit, organize and retain a volunteer network of all ages to support senior center programming and activities, and maintain records of volunteer activity;
  • Coordinate and effectively communicate with the co-located Nutrition program staff;
  • All other duties as necessary and/or assigned by the Board of Directors

 

Qualifications

  • Associate or Bachelor's Degree with at least (1) year of supervisory and/or administrative experience; or High School Degree or equivalent with at least (5) years of supervisory and/or administrative experience;
  • Working knowledge of budgeting, bookkeeping, and business management practices;
  • Some knowledge of and ability to work with older adults and frail elderly in identifying and meeting their needs;
  • Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally;
  • Computer competency;
  • Must maintain certification in CPR and First Aid training
