Job Summary

The Executive Director is responsible for the oversight and execution of all 100 Black Men of Middle Tennessee, Inc. (The 100) operations, programs, fundraising/development, and initiatives. Reporting to the organization’s Board of Directors, the Executive Director ensures accomplishment of The 100’s goals and strategic plans, to accomplish the mission of the organization (To nurture and enhance the growth, development, and opportunities for young Black males of Middle Tennessee).

Job Responsibilities

The Executive Director works with The 100’s Board of Directors and membership to build the organization and its offerings through executing on the duties listed below.

Strategic Leadership

  • Works with The 100’s leadership to develop strategies that support the mission of The 100
  • Ensures The 100 has a strategic plan, and ensures the members, staff, and other volunteers work to make consistent and timely progress in achieving organization goals
  • Assists the Executive Committee (Chairman, Vice Chairman, Secretary, and Treasurer) with the development of a strong Board of Directors and standing committees
  • Works with the Board of Directors to seek and establish collaborative relationships that are beneficial to the organization and the community it serves

Budget and Finance

  • Leads the development and fundraising efforts for the organization by seeking new contributions from members, corporate supporters, foundations, philanthropic supporters, and other potential contributors, coupled with maintaining and nurturing existing donor relationships
  • Researches, prepares, and submits grant proposals to support The 100’s operations
  • Works with the Treasurer to ensure fiscal integrity of the organization by establishing the budget and managing operations within that budget, while working within the required laws and regulatory requirements
  • Demonstrates competence in reading, creating, and understanding financial documents including budgets, cash flow, income statements, balance statements, with functional experience with financial software
  • Tracks all expenses and deposits and provides monthly itemized reports of same to Treasurer and accountant
  • Manages vendor payments as needed

Program Management

  • Recruits and leads staff, seasonal independent contractors, and volunteer support personnel
  • Manages staff, seasonal independent contractors, consultants, and volunteers according to authorized personnel policies and procedures that conform to current laws and regulations, while working within current laws and regulatory guidelines
  • Tracks all hours for part-time independent contractors and submits payroll bi-monthly to accountant for timely payments
  • Ensures the delivery of high-quality programmatic services to all stakeholders consistent with the mission, which includes monitoring and measuring the impact and results of the organization’s programs for young Black males
  • Plans, coordinates, oversees, and measures success of 100 Kings activities
  • Partners with the Collegiate 100 liaison to ensure alignment between the 100 Kings and Collegiate 100 organization

Communications

  • Strengthens The 100’s brand by promoting its activities and securing media exposures for the organization
  • Leads the effort to share program news and results with key stakeholders, including periodic or annual newsletters and/or updates with programmatic metrics
  • Serves as a public advocate/educator, who is aware of, and involved in, community issues relevant to The 100’s mission
  • Ensures timely updates to official website and provides updates to social media

Other Duties

  • Maintains official records and documents and ensures compliance with federal, state, and local laws and regulations
  • Manages all administrative duties including recordkeeping, answering, and returning phone calls, responding to emails and inquiries on a timely basis
  • Planning and executing annual large fundraising event and negotiating contracts for same
  • Performs additional duties as assigned by the Board of Directors

Qualifications

Prospective candidates should possess the following qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree is required; advanced degree is preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience leading a successful organization and staff is preferred
  • Ability to provide strategic direction, leadership and vision to staff and the Board
  • Action-oriented and innovative business planning, fundraising and grant management skills with strong financial acumen and project management experience
  • Ability to oversee multiple programs, processes, and systems with flexibility to pivot to new tasks as assigned
  • Strong multi-tasking skills
  • Experience and building coalitions with stakeholders and cultivating relationship with board members, community leaders and corporate leaders
  • Coalition building skills
  • Ability to demonstrate accuracy and thoroughness in all aspects of the job
  • Experience planning, organizing, and executing fundraising events
  • Proven self-starter with a positive attitude
  • Microsoft Office Software including PowerPoint, Excel, Word, and Outlook
  • Working knowledge of QuickBooks for financial reporting and check issuance
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects
