Job Summary

Legal Aid Society’s mission is to advance, defend, and enforce the legal rights of low-income and vulnerable people in order to secure for them the basic necessities of life. Our staff includes national authorities in the fields of domestic violence, housing, consumer law, federal income taxation, health advocacy, non-profit group representation, social security, and special education.

We are looking for a Project Coordinator for our Eviction Right to Counsel Project. This role works closely with the Project Director of the Eviction Rights to Counsel Project. The Project Coordinator will work out of our Nashville office. This is a 2-year grant funded project wherein low- and moderate-income tenants facing eviction will be appointed legal representation to ensure equity and inclusion in the legal system.

The Project Coordinator is responsible for communication with clients, partner organizations, and private attorneys, and provides general support for the project across LASMTC’s’ 48-county service area. This position is funded in part by, and in collaboration with, one or more grants. Personnel must adhere to goals and outcomes detailed in the grant contract. This position is funded for the duration of the grant(s) and subsequent renewal may result in modification of job duties and responsibilities.

Job Responsibilities

  • Plan and coordinate legal clinics across the service area in conjunction with Managing Attorneys and supervisors.
  • Coordinate outreach events about Legal Aid Society’s mission and services.
  • Serve as the primary administrative point of contact for the program both internally and externally on matters pertaining to scheduling, availability, legal clinics and outreach events, and general inquiries, as determined by the supervisor.
  • Create and maintain positive working relationships with private bar, attorneys, and organizations in the service area and state which would benefit the client population. Conduct intake interviews and screen applicants for conflicts of interest, legal problem, and eligibility.
  • Follow up as necessary.
  • Perform general administrative duties (e.g., drafts correspondence as directed, develops spreadsheets, photocopies, scans, files, and faxes documents, processes and distributes mail, and provides information as appropriate).

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in budgeting, reporting, and basic accounting a plus.
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred or 3 years’ commensurate experience.
  • Excellent data analysis and analytical skills.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Smart and coachable.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Intermediate proficiency in Windows and Microsoft Outlook, Word, and Excel software
