Job Summary

Catholic Charities has an opening for the position of Refugee Benefits Specialist for the Refugee and Immigration Services department.  This position is fulltime, based in Nashville, and is located at the Catholic Pastoral Center located at 2806 McGavock Pike, Nashville, TN 37214.  Hours are Monday through Friday, between 8:00 a.m. and 4:30 p.m.

Job Responsibilities

Primary function of this position is to determine initial and/or continued eligibility of clients for Refugee Cash Assistance (RCA) and Refugee Medical Assistance (RMA). This position also serves as a Liaison to the state office in RCA and RMA affairs. This work involves verifying eligibility documents, data entry, accurate and timely completion of forms and reports, communication of rights and responsibilities with clients, electronic submissions, and documentation of services.

Qualifications

Education/Experience:

  • High school diploma or GED
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office applications required.
  • Experience in working with refugees preferred.

  • Ability to exercise good judgment, courtesy, and tact in dealing with the public and staff.
  • Ability to handle confidential information with extreme professionalism.

  • Effective interpersonal skills including emotional intelligence, reliability, positivity, negotiation, empathy, and openness to feedback.
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to work well as a team and independently with minimal direction.
  • Computer proficiency in Microsoft Office suite; ability to learn databases.
  • Bi-lingual strongly preferred (Spanish).
