Job Summary

The EL Family and Community Specialist is responsible for the planning and implementation of family and community programming, serving as a liaison between families, community partners, and the MNPS EL Office, conducting presentations to district stakeholders and families, and project planning. This position requires coordinating resources and partnerships in conjunction with diverse community stakeholders.

Job Responsibilities

  • Schedule, manage, and attend EL family and community programming for assigned schools.
  • Create and/or conduct presentations for school staff on cultural awareness, social-emotional development, and trauma-informed practices for English Learners and their families.
  • Collaborate with school leaders and staff, MNPS department leaders and staff, and external stakeholders to conduct and coordinate parent English classes and meetings for multilingual families.
  • Attend outreach events on behalf of the EL Office to talk about all of EL Office’s programs, as needed.
  • Create, update, and manage project planning for assigned projects.
  • Provide frequent reporting on EL Office family and community work outcomes and conduct strategic planning with the EL Office team and community partners
  • Communicate in a positive and effective manner MNPS EL Office’s mission and programs to external stakeholders.
  • Performs other duties or tasks as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the responsibilities in this job classification.

Qualifications

Education: Bachelor’s degree in education, counseling, social work, or other relevant field required.

Experience: Minimum of two years of directly applicable experience working with English learners and families.

Skills:

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in both English and Spanish required; biculturalism is preferred.
  • Public speaking skills and experience
  •  Ability to work independently, manage multiple tasks, and handle various roles.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with deadlines and strict timelines.
