Job Summary

PEARS – Parents * Empowerment * Access * Resources * Support is a program funded by the TN Department of Health Newborn Hearing Program, housed within Family Voices of Tennessee, a program of the Tennessee Disability Coalition, that provides parent to parent support for families of children who are deaf or hard of hearing ages 0-21, with a focus on 0-3. The East TN Parent Guide provides direct support to families, outreach and education to the community. This position is part-time, hourly 12-16 hours per week (depending on availability).

Job Responsibilities

Administrative responsibilities:

  • No supervisory responsibilities
  • Responsible for logging, reporting contacts with families, data entry and collation in online database (Salesforce CRM), and preparation of reports on activities as required by the Program Director

Functional duties:

  • Provide direct parent support to families of infants and children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing through home visits & phone calls as requested by Program Coordinator. This includes providing information and assistance to families in a responsive and supportive manner.
  • Provide community outreach and education to families of infants and children who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing
  • Provide outreach and education to local/state agencies and professionals as requested by Program Coordinator
  • Participate in regular conference calls and meetings with the Newborn Hearing Taskforce and in annual Learning Community meetings
  • Attend monthly Family Voices of Tennessee staff conference calls and participate in annual staff meetings
  • Participate with Family Voices of TN staff to provide support to families, share resources, create presentations, & attend meetings as requested by program coordinator
  • Work collaboratively with fellow Guides and Program Coordinator to develop training modules and educational presentations
  • Attend occasional evening and weekend support groups, workshops or events as requested by Program Coordinator
  • Participate in a two-day training provided by Family Voices of Tennessee PEARS Program as requested by the Program Coordinator.

Qualifications

While this position is remote, work-from-home, our preference is that the applicant be located in the East Region of Tennessee. The applicant must be a parent of a child who is deaf, hard of hearing, deaf-blind or deaf with additional disabilities. Applicant must have working knowledge of health care and related service systems for children with hearing loss (this includes personal experience); strong interpersonal and presentation skills; demonstrated organizational and writing skills; proficiency with computer software; travel may be required to appropriate conferences and meetings.

Additional training will be provided for the person hired for this position on providing support to families with children who are deaf or hard of hearing.
