Job Summary
This is a full-time non-civil Service position with the Nashville Public Library. The position develops and provides coaching services at Davidson County preschools and childcare centers to support evidence-based practices in early literacy. Assists with educator professional development and tracks program statistics. The candidate will be expected to travel throughout Davidson County. The position offers a flexible schedule with regular evening and weekend hours required. Other duties as assigned.
Job Responsibilities
- Establishes and maintains positive, supporting, and professional relationships with Davidson County childcare and preschool teachers and directors.
- Utilizes current research and evidence-based practices to assist in the development of new early literacy coaching initiatives.
- Leads or assists with other programming as needed.
- Conducts classroom observations.
- Provides one-on-one and small group coaching to educators that supports their professional development to provide high-quality literacy practices in the classroom.
- Develops learning plans.
- Promotes NPL resources and services to use in the classroom.
- Works collaboratively with BBTL staff to identify specific programming and resources to enhance classroom instruction and practices.
- Assists in creating new teacher professional development workshops based on identified needs.
- Tracks progress, prepares reports, and analyzes data to demonstrate the impact of literacy practices.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university in Early Childhood or related field and two (2) years of experience teaching in an early childhood education setting, including planning and implementing curriculum.
- Valid “Class D” Driver’s License
- Candidates with accreditations earned in a foreign institute are encouraged to apply.
Note: Per Metro Ordinance No. SO94-1078. All employees of the Metropolitan Government shall be residents of the State of Tennessee or become residents of the state within six (6) months of employment as a prerequisite to employment with the Metropolitan Government.
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- One year experience training and mentoring teachers in a group setting
- Experience working with commonly used early childhood curricula: Frog Street, Teaching Strategies, etc.
- Bilingual Language Skills
