Job Summary
The Senior Manager for Donor Development plays a key role in advancing CFMT’s mission by engaging both current and prospective donors, helping to ensure current fundholders incorporate CFMT into their family giving and estate plans. This role focuses on expanding generational philanthropy and legacy gifts throughout our donor community. The Senior Manager will balance new business development with ongoing donor stewardship, prioritizing the growth of assets within their portfolio and increasing grantmaking, all while delivering exceptional service. As a senior member of the Philanthropic Services Team, they will also help shape programs and policies that strengthen donor engagement and stewardship across CFMT’s entire donor base.
Job Responsibilities
New Business Development:
- Identify and solicit new funds and donors for CFMT through avenues such as networking, donor referrals, participation in CFMT-sponsored events, and relevant engagements like family office or estate planning panels.
- Leverage relationships with current donors to facilitate introductions to new prospective donors not yet connected with CFMT.
- Provide exemplary service throughout the process of fund creation and onboarding for new fundholders.
- Understand the core philanthropic goals of donors and develop strategies to ensure their charitable intents are honored.
- Share comprehensive knowledge of CFMT’s services to maximize impact on the community.
Account Management of Existing Donors:
- Expand the assigned donor portfolio by increasing fund sizes, donor engagement, multigenerational participation, and the diversity of fund types, optimizing the impact for the nonprofits we support.
- Manage and deepen relationships with assigned donors, focusing on growing assets under management and increasing grantmaking activity.
- Facilitate legacy-giving discussions with assigned donors and support the Philanthropic Services Team in promoting these conversations across their portfolios.
- Collaborate with the Vice President of Philanthropic Services to design and execute engagement activities, such as giving circles, networking events, donor education series, and building tours.
- Exemplify best-in-class service to fundholders by 1) ensuring timely and thoughtful responses to all inquiries; 2) proactively engaging fundholders in creative ways to give including cash, stock transfers, legacy planning, and real estate; 3) serving as an educator to fundholders on how and where to maximize their impact in their chosen charitable causes.
- Work alongside donors’ professional teams (accountants, estate planners, financial advisors) to support their philanthropic goals.
- Ensure accurate reporting to fundholders, while offering innovative philanthropic solutions in line with IRS best practices.
Nonprofit Research and Partnership:
- Conduct research and engage with nonprofit organizations to identify grantmaking opportunities at donors’ request.
- Provide tailored recommendations to donors seeking guidance in their philanthropic focus areas.
Leadership and Program Development:
- Contribute to the Philanthropic Services Team by developing innovative programs and policies that enhance donor engagement and stewardship, including establishing a “Legacy Giving Center.”
- Assist the Community Impact Team with content suggestions, editorial input, and occasional social media contributions.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Nonprofit Management, Community Engagement, Business Administration, Communications, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience in donor relations, development, philanthropic services, or a related field.
- Experience in developing and implementing donor engagement strategies and programs.
- Experience with fundraising campaigns preferred.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite or MS 365.
- Experience with social media and digital outreach preferred.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an open office environment.
- Comfortable in a work setting that is open to the community and hosts frequent gatherings.
