Job Summary

The Domestic Violence Advocate reports to the Associate Director of Programs and is responsible for direct services to and for survivors of domestic abuse for HomeSafe with a primary target being survivors in Wilson County, TN.

Job Responsibilities

· Provide crisis counseling and emotional support to survivors of domestic violence

· Help survivors develop personal safety plans

· Work in collaboration with the legal program to provide legal advocacy and accompaniment to survivors which may include assistance in helping victims file for orders of protection

· Provide survivors necessary information about resources, rights, and referrals

· Facilitate support groups for survivors

· Respond to HelpLine calls to include after hours on call rotation

· Develop and maintain collaborative relations with other community agencies and organizations

· Participate and represent the organization in community meeting and committees

· Provide transportation for survivors by HomeSafe guidelines

Qualifications

· Demonstrated Ability to work in the Human Service Field. This includes: 1) an understanding of client centered advocacy; 2) ability to develop relationships with other service providers; 3) an understanding of trauma informed services

· Demonstrated Ability to Speak Spanish and English and Work in a Bi-Cultural Environment. This includes: 1) fluency in Spanish and English both written and spoken; 2) the ability to develop and collaborate with culturally specific service providers; 3) the ability to explore cultural connections, especially as it relates to one’s healing

· Reporting and Administrative Abilities. This includes: 1) a demonstrated ability to navigate Microsoft Office products; 2) the ability to enter data and case notes with little supervision 3) the ability to meet deadlines

· Clear Background and Driving Record. This includes: 1) valid driver’s license; 2) current car insurance 3) criminal background clearance according to OCJP guidelines

Desired Skills and Knowledge:

  • Bachelor in social work, sociology, education, or related fields preferred.
  • 40 hour Victim Advocacy Training preferred.
  • Strong relationships building skills.
  • Ability to speak to the public.
  • Demonstrate personal initiative as well as interpersonal and team skills.
  • Flexibility, collegiality, demonstrated ability to serve in a confidential capacity, a positive attitude and sense of humor, and the ability to work under pressure.

Working Conditions

· Stand, walk, or sit for extended periods of time.

· You may be required to talk or hear, reach, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, or crouch.

· You may be required to lift or move over 25 lbs.

· Drive to various locations to include regular coverage in our Gallatin, Lebanon and Springfield offices as needed.
