Job Summary

The Diversity and Inclusion specialist ensures the experiences and outcomes provided by Girl Scouts of Middle Tennessee are equitably accessible to all girls within our jurisdiction, with a specific focus and emphasis on minorities and other historically under-represented groups. This is a strategic position that will work directly with all aspects of Mission delivery to create, implement, and refine recruitment, training, and programming strategies to ensure a more diverse, equitable, and inclusive Council for girls and volunteers.

Job Responsibilities

This is a grant-supported position, currently funded through 6/30/2024

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Recruiting
  • Assists membership staff in developing and maintaining a community profile that identifies under-represented populations with appropriate demographic and geographic data
  • Identifies connection points and individuals within religious organizations, community centers, and other areas to build and foster relationships 
  • Works directly with Membership staff to establish relationship-based recruiting methods in under-represented areas to increase access and effectivity
  • Work directly with the Vice President to ensure all recruiting methods utilized by GSMIDTN are free from any biases or prejudices, and that an inherent focus on the inclusivity of all girls is clear in our methodologies

Volunteer Support

  • Assesses current leader demographics to determine representation and support levels for minority troop leaders and volunteers
  • Evaluate current volunteer training programs for effectiveness toward minority leaders
  • Evaluate current levels of DEI awareness and education among leaders and determine further needs
  • Works directly with the Director of Volunteer support to develop DEI-based training and mentorships as necessary

Programming

  • Establishes a working knowledge of current DEI programming offerings and actively promotes their implementation and curriculum
  • Works with program specialists to evaluate current curriculums and programs, aids in developing additional resources as needed
  • Works with the Director of programs on a continuing basis to ensure all-girl programs are appealing, accessible, and inclusive to all girls
  • Work with Camp, Outdoor, and Equine teams to ensure that all offerings are appealing, accessible, and inclusive to all girls

Additional Duties

  • Accepts additional responsibilities and performs other duties as delegated by the Vice President 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree or experience equivalent in cultural studies, social justice, social work, and/or other related fields
  • Successful track record of establishing professional relationships with religious, cultural, and community centers
  • Conflict Management
  • Ability and experience in the development and administration of budgets.
  • Experience in volunteer management and an ability to work with a diverse group of staff and volunteers including donors.
