Job Summary

Responsible for providing access to academic intervention to students in 1st– 5th grade through community partnerships. Analyze assessment data to improve program and student performance. Assist teachers with training, resources, and classroom support. Assess the Raise Your Hand model within selected schools in addition to managing, recruiting, and assigning volunteer tutors. This position is funded through the TN Department of Education working closely with Local Education Agencies and Community-based Organization Administrators for out-of-school time tutoring.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Duties & Responsibilities: 

  • Collaborate with Principals and District Representatives to coordinate Raise Your Hand tutoring out-of-school time operations, activities, and services.
  • Verify active tutors are trained and volunteers have their background checked.
  • Communicate weekly with schools and tutors via site visits or emails, manage weekly schedules, and volunteer placements, monitor attendance, resolve conflicts, and track service hours.
  • Increase program awareness about RYH, educational challenges, and resources available, building greater community involvement, volunteer recruitment, and partnerships.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager to contribute to short-term and long-term goals of tutoring programs and determine program efficacy, challenges, and success.
  • Recruit Youth Advisory Council Project members, a platform for STEM activities.
  • Serve as liaison between instructional/administrative staff and volunteers.
  • Attend school district meetings, and school events, and stay abreast of best practices.
  • Collaborate with the Academic Manager to assess student data and confirm all student identification numbers and attendance records are submitted to UWGN and TDOE.
  • Provide support for supplemental instruction, resources, program handbooks, and handouts to volunteers and teachers to achieve goals.

Qualifications

Education:

Preferred: Bachelor’s degree in education, administration, health and human sciences, social work, or equivalent experience 

Qualifications:

  • Experience with volunteer and classroom management.
  • Excellent organization skills and attention to detail 
  • Excellent written and verbal communication and customer service skills, including presentation/public speaking ability and desire. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suits specifically Excel.
  • Strong people skills and ability to work with diverse groups of people. 
  • Ability to work with diverse constituencies and relate to individuals and groups in a manner that will inspire respect and confidence. 
  • Ability to perform with minimal supervision. 
  • Ability to withstand stress and manage numerous assignments simultaneously. 
  • Ability to prioritize work and manage time effectively to meet deadlines. 
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Physical Demands:  Visual acuity, manual dexterity, hearing, driving, standing, walking, sitting, stooping, bending, lifting, and carrying 50 pounds. Reasonable accommodation may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform their essential duties. 

Working Conditions: 

  • Minimum of 37.5 hours per week. Based on campaign schedules, a position often requires work beyond traditional hours 
  • A flexible schedule is required during special projects and events.
  • Work involves frequent interaction with other members of the United Way staff, volunteers, school districts, representatives of non-profit agencies, and the general public. 
  • Occasional use of personal vehicle (mileage will be reimbursed) 
  • The employee is required to stand, walk, climb, and balance.
  • Manual dexterity sufficient to reach/handle items work with the fingers and perform repetitive hand/wrist motions.
  • Well-lighted, heated, and/or air-conditioned indoor office setting with adequate ventilation.
