Job Summary
The Director, of Regional Community Impact contributes to the efforts of United Way of Greater Nashville (UWGN) by providing leadership, strategy, and vision for community impact across UWGN’s multi-county footprint. This position focuses on developing and aligning community impact strategies across all UWGN counties. This includes expanding the work of UWGN strategically and similarly across counties; working with regional community impact managers to develop plans for stakeholder engagement; developing strong community impact portfolios inclusive of UWGN initiatives; building productive community impact volunteer tables; and building relationships and trust that build the brand and recognition of UWGN. This position is responsible for leading the Community Impact Funding process in all counties.
Job Responsibilities
- Works with regional community impact managers to develop a vision and strategic plan for community impact across UWGN’s multi-county footprint. Plans will outline the strategies, tactics, systems, and resources necessary to achieve desired outcomes
- Works with regional community impact managers to develop community impact portfolios. Portfolios will be a mobilization of the strategic plan informed by needs assessments, focus groups, and other stakeholder engagement
- Works with regional community impact managers and Data Analyst to assess the needs of their local communities
- Works with regional community impact managers to create stakeholder engagement plans for the purpose of building relationships and trust
- Works across CI to expand UWGN initiatives into local communities where appropriate
- Works with regional community impact managers to build strong community impact volunteer tables. Volunteer responsibilities will include stewardship of Community Impact Fund allocations and the strongest advocates in each county
- Leads the Community Impact Funding allocations process with the team including process, training, coordination, and actionable work of volunteers
- Supervises, manages and supports community impact managers to ensure the team has the knowledge and resources needed to achieve their goals
- Works with the team to establish a county budget annually. Oversee and operate within the financial budget set for each county and the CIF Process
- Supports workplace engagement and marketing to communicate the impact of UWGN work and initiatives to the community and inspire volunteering, building advocates and ambassadors, and increased giving across all counties
- Works to identify and secure grant funding to support each county in the footprint
- Stays abreast of best practices, current research, and policy applicable to community impact work. This includes learning from other UWs across the country to refine practices and processes for CIF
- Builds partnerships that advance UWGN’s goals, increases resources, knowledge, and revenue, and positions UWGN to increase its presence and impact in the community
- Works collaboratively with the Chief Community Impact Officer to provide leadership to the Community Impact Department as requested
Qualifications
- Knowledge of and experience in leading dynamic change in health and human services work
- Leadership skills and experience, including managing teams, volunteer programs, or community-based initiatives involving different disciplines, experiences, and interests
- Experience collecting, analyzing, and using data to inform planning, implementation, and evaluation
- Demonstrate understanding of and commitment to issues of equity, diversity, and cultural competence in early childhood system building
- Excellent communication skills, including meeting facilitation, public speaking and presentation skills, and writing skills
- Excellent one-on-one interpersonal and communication skills, including the ability to foster confidence and trust, listen sensitively, and respond appropriately to the needs of team members, volunteers, and both corporate and community stakeholders
- Innovative, strategic thinker with a track record of delivering results
- Experience developing and implementing complex strategic plans
- Experience with the development of funding proposals
- Experience in stakeholder engagement and relationship building with community partners
- Ability to handle and prioritize multiple activities with flexibility to respond to changing circumstances or priorities
- Set priorities and support teams in their management of multiple projects and recommend an effective course of action
- Strong decision-making skills with the use of good judgment in recognizing the scope of authority
- Proficient computer skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, and the internet
- Three or more years of experience in the nonprofit or social services sector
- Demonstrated leadership in strategic planning, development, and implementation
- Strong time management and organizational skills
- Experience working with grants
- Ability to withstand stress and handle numerous assignments simultaneously
- Ability to work with diverse groups of people
- Disaster management or crisis management is desirable
