Job Summary

The Director of Strategic Initiatives and Programs supports the mission, goals, values, and philosophy of the United Way of Rutherford and Cannon Counties by exhibiting the following: commitment to excellence, efficiency and effectiveness, flexibility, diplomacy, and accountability. The individual’s performance includes superior demonstration of the following professional attributes: ethical leadership, effective communication, teamwork, and job knowledge. The Vice President of Collective Impact and Strategic Initiatives is responsible for advancing the collective impact model and ensuring measurable impact through strategic initiatives and partnerships. The Director of Strategic Initiatives and Programs works with a collaborative team to advance United Way’s community impact model through strategic initiatives, programs, partnerships, community planning, resource investment, and outcomes-based impact.

Job Responsibilities

  • Play a role in the development and execution of short and long-range goals and strategies for United Way
  • Promote the mission and vision of the United Way
  • Develop and maintain strategic partnerships and relationships that support United Way’s impact in the community
  • Develop United Way’s impact areas/priority issues by supporting, advancing, implementing, and/or sustaining key initiatives and programs
  • Manage the Governor’s Foundation Books from Birth program for Rutherford and Cannon Counties, working with volunteers to increase enrollment and awareness; secure funds necessary to sustain the program, including collaboration with the Director of Grant Writing and Management
  • Oversee the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance program (VITA), including the management of a VITA coordinator
  • Coordinate capacity building opportunities for the non-profit sector, such as partnerships with the Center for Non-Profit Management to deliver certificate-based curriculum
  • Develop and implement alternative breaks programming with student volunteers
  • Participate in outreach for programs such as 2-1-1 and FamilyWize
  • Lead efforts as necessary to support grant-based programming, such as the Afterschool Network
  • Collaborate with other departments to meet organizational/departmental goals
  • Primary duties and responsibilities are not all-inclusive, and employee will be asked to fulfill other duties as required
  • Oversees the Catalyst program
  • Oversees the Volunteer Connect platform for Rutherford County

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education, business, public administration, social work, communications, or related field
  • Minimum of three years of experience in a related field
