Job Summary

The Director of Resource Development is responsible for organizing, managing, and growing the organization’s special events, as well as establishing and cultivating strong relationships with our corporate donors. This position also manages the annual calendar of events and corporate solicitation and stewardship to ensure efficiency and maximum return on investment. Additionally, the Director of Resource Development is responsible for representing the Club and serving as a community advocate. The Director of Resource Development works with guidance from the CDO and Board committees in establishing and achieving the goals for each event and/or strategy while keeping with the mission, vision, and values of Boys & Girls Clubs of South Central Tennessee. Additional responsibilities include managing and developing cause campaigns, non-fundraising event/meeting coordination, and managing Board event committees/chairs.

Job Responsibilities

KEY ROLES:

Event Management

  • Execute all aspects of four major fundraising events (Great Futures Luncheon, Cajunfest, Dream Makers Dinner & Auction, Pulaski Great Futures Luncheon) per year, as well as other smaller and non-fundraising special events
  • Track progress towards event targets and keep committee, Board, and development staff on track to meet goals as determined by the organization’s RD Plan
  • Create and maintain detailed timelines of tasks for each event
  • Invoice event supporters and collect revenue on accounts payable for events
  • Work with event chairs to manage committee work, including but not limited to:
    • scheduling meetings and sending meeting reminders
    • creating meeting agendas and materials
    • managing and updating shared spreadsheet of prospects/prospectors
    • phone calls and emails to committee members to receive progress updates
    • training committee members on special event procedures
    • keeping committee members informed and engaged
    • selecting theme and sourcing decorations
  • Coordinate event logistics with venue, including catering, rentals, load in/load out, AV, event flow, etc.
  • Recruit and manage special event volunteers
  • Work with Chief Development Officer to develop materials to market event (press releases, email blasts, social media posts), and secure all media and marketing materials needed from corporate sponsors
  • Serve as primary point of contact for all corporate sponsors to ensure they fill their tables, send guest names, submit ad content if applicable, etc.
  • Oversee and execute post-event logistics (event clean up, supporter invoicing, following up on failed credit cards, stewarding sponsors, distributing auction items, etc.), including facilitating event debrief meetings with both staff and Board members

Strategic Planning & Development

  • Establish yearlong calendar of special event/community engagement tasks and workflow
  • Assist the CDO in exploring and vetting new event ideas and strategies
  • Assist the CDO with analyzing Return on Investment (ROI) for each event annually and making recommendations to CEO and Board
  • Build relationships and strategic partnerships to secure in-kind support and pro-bono services to reduce event expenses/workload

Corporate Sponsorship

  • Work with CDO to design annual corporate sponsorship packages that maximize revenue and provide appealing benefits to corporate sponsors
  • Identify prospective businesses to target for various sponsorship levels and reach out to set up appointments during their budget development cycle
  • Send letters to corporate sponsors during budget development cycle to thank and encourage sponsorship again next year
  • In collaboration with CEO and CDO, solicit corporate sponsors (face to face or telephone/email) to purchase corporate packages, tables, individual tickets, or other sponsorships
  • Manage all sponsor relationships and work with CDO to ensure all deliverables in corporate sponsorship packages are executed
  • Establish and execute the annual Corporate Stewardship Plan to ensure the proper, year-round stewardship of corporate sponsors at all levels
  • Build relationships with representatives from each major corporate sponsor and ensure multiple touches/visits throughout the year, including coffee, lunch meetings, Club tours, invitations to Open Houses, etc.
  • Identify and recruit new corporate partners for the organization

Community Engagement

  • Attend networking events in the community, such as monthly chamber coffees, to build relationships with local businesses and individuals who could potentially support the Club
  • Steward and build relationships with local individuals and/or business contacts from the community, including inviting on Club tours throughout the year, to generate additional support for the Club
  • Manage corporate cause campaigns based on the partnerships built at the national level (Murphy USA, Ross Dress for Less, Buffalo Wild Wings, etc.) and ensure participation in the designated giveback periods communicated to us by BGCA, including proper stewardship and thanking of local representatives for each partner, to grow revenue generated by this channel for the Club
  • Identify prospective local businesses to target for additional cause campaigns/givebacks, and work to develop additional partnerships at the local level in support of the Club
  • Work with the CDO to ensure that all cause campaigns/community givebacks are appropriately marketed on the Club’s social media channels and email blasts, and in the press when necessary
  • Work with the Chief Operations Officer and program staff to ensure that all corporate and community partners are included in drive-by thank you visits or receive handmade thank you cards/posters from our kids
  • Represent the Club at civic club meetings, chamber events, United Way events, etc., serving as a community advocate and spokesperson for the Club

Additional Responsibilities

  • Assist RD Team with other Resource Development activities as needed
  • Assist with other responsibilities as needed to help support the day-to-day operations of the organization

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university
  • Organized, enthusiastic, self-motivated
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to write and speak persuasively
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work with a high degree of accuracy
  • Minimum of two years’ experience in fundraising preferred, or two years’ experience in sales with a track record of successful revenue growth
  • Ability to multi-task and great time management skills
  • Goal-oriented with the ability to work independently and meet deadlines
  • Customer service orientation required; must have ability to handle sensitive information with confidentiality
  • Knowledgeable about the cycle of resource development and resource development techniques
  • Outgoing and able to form relationships with others, and be comfortable calling on individuals and businesses on behalf of the Club
  • Proven ability to plan and lead events and develop innovative ways to increase awareness and grow audience
  • Demonstrated ability to stay motivated and be a team player, assisting the Resource Development Team in achieving department goals
  • Strong interpersonal skills, both with coworkers and in networking with community members
  • Must have ability to travel occasionally and availability to work some nights and weekends
