Job Summary

Scarritt Bennett Center seeks skilled professionals with a heart for racial justice as candidates for our next Director of Racial Justice Ministries. This is an exempt position that reports directly to the executive director.

The Director of Racial Justice Ministries works with the Scarritt Bennett Staff, Board, and partnership groups to lead a program convening faith, thought, and justice leaders, and to name and/or develop an alternative, progressive theological vision for racial justice on a regional and national scope. The Director provides research support and movement mobilization that equips faith-inspired individuals and groups to become agents of change. The Director also assists the Center in fulfilling its mission and goals by engaging in faith-inspired work within social justice movements on the regional and national scope.

Candidates interested in this position should possess:

• A master’s degree or relevant years of field experience
• Demonstrated commitment to racial justice, women’s rights, and civil rights
• Excellent written and oral communication, social media aptitude, advocacy, public speaking, research, and analytic skills
•Great attention to detail and organizational skills

Candidates should be self-motivated with demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced environment. A team player who can work with the Scarritt Bennett leadership is preferred. The ideal candidate will embrace a personal commitment to the mission and ministry of Scarritt Bennett Center.

Job Responsibilities

The Director of Racial Justice Ministries will work with the Scarritt Bennett Staff, Board, and partnership groups to:

  1. Lead a program convening faith, thought, and justice leaders to name and/or develop an alternative, progressive theological vision for racial justice on a regional and national scope.
  2. Provide research support and movement mobilization that equips faith- inspired individuals and groups to become agents of change.
  3. Assist Scarritt Bennett Center in fulfilling its mission and goals by engaging in faith-inspired work within    social justice movements on the regional and national scope

Qualifications

Required skills

  • Master’s degree or relevant years of field experience.
  • Demonstrated commitment to racial justice, women’s rights, and civil rights.
  • Excellent written and oral communication, social media aptitude, advocacy, public speaking, research, and analytic     skills.
  • Self-motivated with demonstrated ability to thrive in fast-paced environment.
  • Great attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Team player who can work with the Scarritt Bennett leadership.

Valued Skills

  • Experience with coalition-building or partnership management, and networking skills.
  • Ability to build relationships with a diverse range of people across faith traditions and practices, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Experience researching, preparing, and/or soliciting for program funding.
