Job Summary

Tennessee CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) is a non-profit organization whose mission is to support, develop, expand and unite local CASA programs in recruiting and training volunteers to advocate for Tennessee’s abused and neglected children. Currently, there are 31 community-based CASA programs, serving 57 counties across Tennessee. With over 1,600 volunteers serving over 5,700 children who are involved in the juvenile court system, we believe that every child deserves a voice from a caring adult who will stand by their side, speak up for their best interest and give them a hope for the future.

This position is located in Murfreesboro, Tennessee and is Full-Time.  The salary is commensurate with experience.  There are no employee benefits, i.e. health insurance or retirement.

The successful candidate will be thoroughly committed to the CASA mission and able to demonstrate management and development skills through a successful experience and education.  Background in nonprofit organizations is preferred. The qualified candidate must be a team player who is mission-driven and task-oriented.

The Director of Program Development is an Exempt Position (Salary based on 40 hours/week) reporting to the Executive Director. 

It is the intent of TN CASA that all positions work together as a team. 

Purpose:  TN CASA is implementing a comprehensive Growth Plan that will result in new programs in unserved counties and increased capacity in current programs to serve more children. 

The purpose of the Director of Program Development is to cultivate new interest in counties to develop a CASA program or for an existing program to expand into a neighboring county.  In addition, the Director of Program Development seeks opportunities to provide technical assistance network-wide to build capacity to and ultimately support program efforts to provide high-quality child advocacy.

Job Responsibilities

Primary Job Responsibilities for this position are as follows:

Program Development and Growth:

  • Lead Statewide Program Development and Growth Calls with the network
  • Implement the TN CASA Growth Plan
  • Collect program data and DCS statistics to analyze program capacity and opportunities to serve more children
  • Cultivate interest in new counties for program development, including travel, meetings, correspondence, etc.
  • Develop program expansion materials including initial inquiry documents and reference notebook for new programs
  • Create PowerPoint presentations for new program development for variety of audiences, i.e., judicial, community stakeholders, service providers, etc.
  • Evaluate compliance with criteria for Expansion Funding
  • Maintain information for reporting to the Legislature and TCCY for pending funding

New Program Development:

  • Create and Manage Best Practice Documents for new and expanding programs
  • Develop training for directors of newly developed programs
  • Track interest and progress in communities for new program and expansion development
  • Provide step-by-step instructions for program development
  • Document and track programs’ progress with NCASA Membership requirements
  • Track progress of each county in accordance with the TN CASA Growth Plan
  • Schedule meetings between TN CASA staff and new programs
  • Prepare Expansion Reports for quarterly board meetings indicating progress throughout the network and for each developing program

Training and Conference Duties:

  • Work together within the team to conduct Annual Meeting, State Conference, Director’s Leadership Development, Regional Training opportunities, and other networking events. 
  • Participate in conferences such as Judges’ Conferences, TN Foster and Adoptive Care Association, TECC, and others as opportunities arise.
  • Create and deliver presentations and trainings as needed
  • Write reports, plans, papers, and summaries as needed

 

Qualifications

Qualifications: Minimum of a B.A. preferably with three years’ experience in nonprofit management and/or child welfare

  • Must submit to national background check and drug screen
  • Demonstrate alliance with Tennessee CASA Values
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office (Outlook, Word, Excel, Power Point, and Access), Adobe, and social media platforms
  • Occasional out-of-town and overnight travel will be as needed and expected to be up to 25% of time
  • Preferred experience with data tracking software
  • Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks with excellent attention to detail
  • Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, external partners and donors
  • Expert level written and verbal communication skills
  • Demonstrate ability to achieve high performance goals and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
  • Must have a reliable vehicle, a valid driver’s license, and proof of insurance. 
  • While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to sit; stand; use hands; and talk and hear; occasionally required to walk; reach with hands and arms, and stoop, kneel, or crouch; vision abilities include close vision, distance vision, and the ability to adjust focus; ability to lift and carry 20-25 lbs. Must have manual dexterity.
