About Little Wonders Early Learning Center

Little Wonders Early Learning Center is a new early childhood endeavor (est: Aug 2022) committed to providing care for the young children of public school teachers and staff in Nashville. We currently operate one 38-seat center in South Nashville and just opened a 79-seat center in West Nashville. We are looking for those with a passion for leading teams of educators as they nurture young children’s growth, development, and sense of wonder. 

Our Mission:  Little Wonders Early Learning Center aims to deliver high-quality, child-centered early education and care to the children of Davidson County’s hardworking educators. Through stimulating classroom and outdoor environments and responsive educator practices we strive to foster children’s innate wonder, curiosity, and brilliance as, together, they learn about the world around them.

General Position Description

The Director of Operations works alongside the Executive Director to refine and execute the strategic mission, vision, and direction of Little Wonders Early Learning Center. In particular, the Director of Operations will take the lead on developing and refining operational procedures related to student enrollment, staff hiring and evaluation, communications, facilities management, legal and budgetary considerations, and general day-to-day operations of the centers. Little Wonders is in its founding years and is poised for rapid growth and expansion. The Director of Operations will work closely with the Executive Director to develop scalable systems that will facilitate the growth of this high-quality early learning center. 

The Director of Operations is a 12-month, salaried position with 15 days of PTO per year, competitive salaries (based on education and experience), and a comprehensive benefits package.  This position reports to the Executive Director 

Job Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Manage adherence to safety and quality standards in accordance with the mission and vision of Little Wonders ELC and with state and local requirements. Maintain quality effectiveness measurements. 
  • Manage family recruitment efforts including member school visits, tabling, center tours, website maintenance, and communication. Create systems for streamlining this process in preparation for expansion.
  • Manage student enrollment processes. Maintain student records in accordance with established enrollment procedures and guidelines. Create systems for streamlining this process in preparation for expansion.
  • With the Executive Director, manage budget planning and review.
  • Maintain and update financial and accounting systems, processes, and internal controls including weekly bookkeeping (QuickBooks) and monthly financial statements. Ensure compliance with the annual budget. Create strategic plans to streamline and automate financial systems where possible.
  • Maintain positive relationships with regulatory agencies; ensure legal and financial compliance.
  • Establish daily operations, illness, and emergency procedures in partnership with host schools’ operations team; ensure staff is trained appropriately and maintain accurate records of emergency drills.
  • Oversee site-specific office functions including payroll, accounts payable and receivable, tuition billing and payment, human resources and personnel management (staff supervision), staff files, and purchasing.
  • Create a warm, welcoming environment for all students, family, staff, and visitors.
  • Manage weekly staffing schedules. Assume duties of teachers and floaters as needed during their absence. Create systems for streamlining scheduling and managing staff absences.
  • Resolve conflicts (including corrective action when necessary) to ensure a positive experience for everyone.
  • Lead family engagement initiatives including family newsletters, Family Wonder Nights, Family Fun Fridays, social media accounts, and parent advisory board.
  • Maintain communications with parents of current and prospective students through direct communication, newsletters, and parent handbook
  • Maintain a personal professional development plan to ensure continuous quality improvement.
  • Manage facility-related issues, requests, and maintenance.

Qualifications

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education and/or Business
  • Preferred, Master’s Degree in early childhood education or related field of study with a minimum of 30 credits in ECE preferred OR in organizational leadership

Physical Requirements

  • Requirements include the ability to take frequent walks, use hands and fingers, handle objects, tools, or controls, and talk to and hear voices at many levels. May also be required to kneel, bend, squat, or crawl and lift up to 40 lbs.
  • A specific vision ability will be required including the ability to see up close and up to a certain distance, to see colors, have peripheral vision and depth perception.
  • Must pass a current physical examination by a physician.

Additional Knowledge, Skills, and Experience Required

  • Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience. 
  • 3 years of operational experience.
  • 3 years of direct professional experience in an early childhood or other educational setting is preferred.
  • High energy, positive attitude, and passion for start-up work.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills; technology skills.
  • Ability to work well with others (staff, children, and parents) and to foster a team environment.
  • Strong finance and budgeting skills.
  • Excellent leadership, organizational, and interpersonal skills.
  • Must clear a full background check.
  • Must pass a health screening.
