OVERVIEW OF THE POSITION

SCORE’s Director of Operations will play a critical role in advancing the organization’s work. This individual will be responsible for managing critical infrastructure, including partnering with the Vice President of Finance and Operations to oversee the IT and technology function (including critical software platforms), assisting with contract development and execution, and ensuring the office environment and business operations supports are conducive to the SCORE team doing its best work. This role requires a detailoriented individual with a passion for ensuring that the organization has the infrastructure needed to be best in class among nonprofits.

While Tennessee has made significant gains, there is much still to do — in public K-12 education, in college and career readiness, and in postsecondary completion. The State Collaborative on Reforming Education (SCORE) plays a critical role in advancing student achievement, aligning K-12 and postsecondary education, and ensuring that all students can achieve career and life success. We work to inform and improve state education policy, support and invest in innovative education leaders and promising proof points in both K12 and higher education, and monitor progress and data to measure impact and identify challenges for students.

SCORE is an independent, nonprofit, and nonpartisan organization founded by former US Senate Majority Leader Bill Frist and is dedicated to the goal that all students can achieve success in college, career, and life. SCORE supports student success in public schools across Tennessee by ensuring all schools and systems meet high expectations; preparing, recruiting, supporting, and retaining excellent teachers and leaders; and aligning K-12 and college with career and life success. SCORE is based at Vanderbilt University’s John Seigenthaler Center.

Job Responsibilities

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Technology

• Support team members in ensuring the physical space, materials, and technology are ready to support virtual, hybrid, and in-person meetings

• Manage relationship with external Managed Service Provider (MSP) including troubleshooting problems with laptops, printers, and phones as needed

• Manage SCORE’s physical assets through activities like purchasing, transfer of custody, and disposal

• Serve as a first line of support for basic technology troubleshooting before referring team members to the Managed Service Provider for further assistance

• Keep all technology assets physically organized and inventoried through a tracking system

• Ensure team members are operating as securely as possible in partnership with the MSP

• Serve as the organization’s Office 365/SharePoint lead by working with the MSP to ensure it is configured to our needs

• Plan and conduct best practice training regarding Office 365 and SharePoint to ensure the team is using the tools as efficiently as possible

• Serve as a Salesforce administrator to support team member training and ongoing maintenance of the organization’s Salesforce environment

Physical Office Space

• Determine office space and furniture needs; identify/execute any changes to the current office space or identify new office space for the organization

• Oversee office management, office supply procurement, and the relationship with the building in which SCORE is located

• Manage relationships with vendors, including an off-site storage facility, UPS/FedEx, third-party IT provider, and copier supplier

• Support the organization’s relationship with the John Seigenthaler Center as it relates to day-today office management, including recycling, office temperature, and building maintenance

Procurement and Contracts

• Manage all subscriptions and licenses to ensure they reflect current needs

• Work with the VP of Finance and Operations and Director of Finance to review contracts for accuracy

• Maintain a contracts database and use it to generate reports, alerting members of the team to trends and pending expirations

Cross-functional support

• Work with other members of the Finance and Operations team, including the Director of Finance, Director of Grants Management, Director of Talent, and Director of Events, to identify areas of collaboration, pursue process improvements, and provide additional capacity when needed

• Work with SCORE team members from across the organization to identify any unmet needs that will improve the quality of SCORE’s programmatic wor

Qualifications

CANDIDATE REQUIREMENTS

• A bachelor’s degree is the minimum education level required

• Business operations or other related experience required

• Management experience preferred

• Candidates must have a passion for SCORE’s mission and a drive to dramatically improve outcomes for students in Tennessee

• Candidates must have demonstrated success in project management

• Candidates must have proven experience managing multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast-paced, rapid-growth, high-intensity, and intellectually demanding environment

• Candidates must demonstrate an extraordinarily high attention to detail

• Candidates must demonstrate the ability to think in innovative ways and to maintain an internal customer-service orientation

• Candidates must have a strong command of technology and an interest in effective utilization of technology
