Job Summary

 

The Director of Marketing is a key leadership position reporting directly to the VP of External Affairs. This position will manage initiatives that build and execute brand and strengthen marketing and communications while translating strategic plands into specific short – and long-term strategies and tactics amd measure effectiveness using industry recognized metrics. This role will also serve as media spokeperson when needed, as well as crisis communications counsel to the VP of External Affairs and President & CEO. This position will lead the Marketing department as well as manage third-party media and related vendor relationships.

Job Responsibilities

  • Manages the daily work of the Marketing Team (currently five FTEs).
  • Responsible for Marketing Team outcomes.
  • Conducts and plans regular meetings with Donated Goods/Retail, Fundraising, Career Solutions and HR managers to meet Marketing needs and provide strategic counsel.
  • Works with VP of External Affairs to write and implement a strategic marketing plan each year that supports the organization’s 10 year plan and establishes measurable ways to grow engagement with goods and financial donors, shoppers, policymakers, partners, mission clients and GWMT’s internal workforce.
  • Manages the True Blue Rewards loyalty program communications activities and strategies.
  • Plans and executes content and paid media campaigns to support the marketing plan/goals.
  • Delegates tasks to members of the Marketing Team and monitors their progress.
  • Oversees any Marketing Team member engaement with outside agencies and vendors.
  • Stays abreast of industry trends and best practices and seeks ongoing professional development regarding the same.
  • Acts as company spokeperson and trains other leaders to do the same, as needed.
  • Secures earned media coverage to achieve strategic goals.
  • Develops and grows relationships with media organizations and important influencers.
  • Addresses negative press or PR crisis if they occur, according to the organization’s crisis communication plan.
  • Works with team members to track campaign success using performance data related to email campaigns, digital advertising, website engagement, earned media, internal team member engagement, survey outcomes and other metrics.
  • Analyzes and reports on the effectiveness of campaigns and recommend next steps for improving outcomes; use this data to inform immediate and future strategies and tactics.
  • This role will also be the day-to-day manager of the Marketing budge and related budgets in other departments that relate to Marketing work.
  • Prepares and distributes press releases and public service announcements.
  • Develops and maintains effective media contacts.
  • Manages all aspects of the communication plan including monitoring expenditures and evaluating effectiveness.

Qualifications

Education

  • Degree in Marketing, Public Relations, English, Journalism or similar field.

 

Experience

  • At leasst 8-10 years of experience in a marketing/communications management role.

 

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong leadership and team management skills.
  • Experience crafting and implementing strategic marketing and communication plans.
  • Creative thinking with an affinity for innovation and problem-solving.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Established connections with media outlets and other key influencers.
  • Understanding of web and marketing analytics.
  • Ability to conduct market research and present reports.
  • Experience with: managing and working with creatives, writing and editing for marketing, strategic communications, public relations, media relations, fundraising support, digital advertising, website development and promotion, recruitment marketing, event planning, social media management, materials development, and audio and video production.

 

Preferred Education / Experience / Knowledge & Skills / Certifications & Licenses

  • Agency experience is preferred but not required.
  • Marketing analytics and/or loyalty program oversight experience a plus but not required.
