Job Summary

The Director of Development – Major Gifts develops and implements strategies to secure major and planned/deferred gifts from individuals and corporations. This position works with the Executive Director and Foundation Board of Trustees in the execution of annual fundraising plans including campaigns, events, donor research and cultivation, and database management. The position works collaboratively across College departments while stewarding relationships with new and existing donors. This position contributes significantly to the growth and sustainability of resources through effective communication of the needs of the students and programs at the College.

Job Responsibilities

  • Design and implement a comprehensive plan for identifying, cultivating, soliciting, and stewarding major gift prospects.
  • Develop and manage a portfolio of major gift prospects ($10,000 or more) making at least 10 contacts a month for the purposes of discovery, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship.
  • Research and qualify potential donors based on established wealth indicators.
  • Communicate regularly with prospective donors through meetings, telephone calls, emails, and other means.
  • Establish, implement, and maintain prospect research, prospect management, donor information, communication, and other practices that increase fundraising capacity, enhance community image, and improve effectiveness.
  • Coordinate activities to cultivate prospective donors with the College President, Foundation Executive Director, Foundation Board of Trustees, other Foundation staff, and volunteers.
  • Participate in community and donor networking opportunities.
  • Establish, monitor, and maintain processing and reporting procedures for prospect contacts, giving history, and other applicable data.
  • In coordination with the Foundation Executive Director, establish annual objectives, targets, and key accountabilities that address specific development goals.
  • Coordinate with and assist other development staff.

Qualifications

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor’s degree
Minimum five years’ related experience with demonstrated fundraising success
Experience with CRM software (especially Raiser’s Edge)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
Masters degree

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
Deep knowledge of fundraising tools and techniques
Excellent oral and written communication skills
Excellent planning and organizational skills
Superior interpersonal skills, especially the ability to work effectively within a complex organization
Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community
Experience with feasibility studies and capital campaigns
Ability to articulate the fundraising goals of the College to the public
