Job Summary

Organizational Overview:

Nashville Children’s Alliance (NCA) is the child advocacy center for Nashville and Davidson County. NCA serves all children in Davidson County aged 3 – 17 when sexual or severe physical abuse allegations are reported, with the majority of referrals coming from the Tennessee Department of Children’s Services (DCS) and the Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD). NCA is a child-focused, trauma-informed therapeutic environment designed to meet the needs of child abuse victims and their non-offending family members. NCA is involved in child sexual and severe physical abuse cases from the first allegation of abuse until after the case is resolved in court, at absolutely no cost to families. Since 1992, NCA has worked to deliver and coordinate the services required for children to escape abuse, begin the healing process, and look forward to bright futures. 


NCA reduces the trauma of child abuse victims and their families by facilitating a comprehensive multidisciplinary team approach to detection, investigation, prosecution and treatment of child abuse. Since 2019, NCA is housed at the Family Safety Center (FSC), a groundbreaking co-working space that facilitates services between Metro Nashville Police Department (MNPD), the Department of Children’s Services (DCS), the District Attorney General’s Office (DA), and various nonprofit organizations. In collaboration with these partners, NCA works with children and non-offending caregivers using three evidence-based approaches: forensic interviews, Child Protective Investigative Team (CPIT) coordination, and trauma-informed therapy.  


The Director of Development is responsible for planning and implementing a comprehensive development program with a strong focus on major gifts cultivation, corporate partnerships and planned giving and grants.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and implement annual fundraising and communications plan supportive of overall agency goals
  • Execute development activities including major gift solicitation, grant writing, corporate, direct mail, foundations, planned giving and fundraising events
  • Compose written communications to aid in cultivating, stewarding and soliciting prospects, including social media, direct mail, and email
  • Develop and strengthen donor relationships through identification, cultivation and stewardship
  • Work with board members to maximize board involvement in fundraising efforts, including setting fundraising goals, establishing fundraising plan, developing fundraising strategies, training and utilizing the board in fundraising efforts
  • Provide staff support and leadership to the board development committee. Prepare bi-monthly reports to the board and attend board meetings
  • Actively participate as member of leadership team
  • Plan, oversee, and manage fundraising events
  • Gift management through Network for Good, timely acknowledgments and reporting on use and impact of funds raised
  • Personally cultivate and solicit a portfolio of at least 25 new individuals and corporations annually
  • Achieve annual targets, as agreed upon with the CEO, in number of solicitation visits, number of new and renewed donors, and dollars raised
  • Become proficient in our donor database system to utilize donor data for reports, moves management, communication, and cultivation
  • Provide analysis to CEO regarding revenue, sources and targets for fundraising activities
  • Prepare and present donor/revenue reports
  • Research new grant opportunities, write and submit grants and reports in collaboration with other staff
  • Produce simple marketing and promotional materials for various events and initiatives
  • Work with volunteers, including board members, to identify, contact, cultivate and solicit prospective donors
  • Recruit volunteers to support fundraising efforts
  • Conduct and facilitate center tours, meet-and-greets, and other events to engage donors/prospects


  • Bachelor’s degree required
  • Minimum of three years successful experience in fundraising and communications/marketing with proven results
  • Superior influencing and negotiation skills, including the ability to lead and work collaboratively with a cross-functional team of both internal leadership team and external stakeholders, including board members
  • Proven ability to write content in a clear, concise, compelling way
  • Can-do, self-starter attitude and a sense of urgency in a rapidly changing environment
  • Continuous demonstration of superior problem-solving, decision-making and project management skills
  • Results-oriented with an ability to think strategically while executing tactically.
  • Ability to work independently, as well as be a strong team player in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
  • Superior attention to detail
  • Exceptional written, verbal, interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Ability to clearly articulate messages to a variety of stakeholders
  • Proficiency with Microsoft platforms and social media communications
