Job Summary

We’re based in Murfreesboro, TN; Christ-focused; and ready to serve each family that comes through our doors.  We’re professionals who are trained and licensed; but first, we’re Christ followers with a God-sized mission that is only met through Him. Special Kids offers professional services to children ages birth through 21 years. Our treatment range encompasses children who need a little extra help, to children who are medically fragile, and to all sorts of diagnoses in between. Development team members at Special Kids have opportunities for team collaboration as well as collaboration with other disciplines, and with community partners. Development team members are encouraged to participate in community events and represent the organization with a Christ-like attitude. Their focus is on developing investors to provide resources for the operational needs and future expansion of Special Kids.  Currently we are looking for a Director of Development to join our team. Summary

Plans, organizes, and directs all ongoing development fundraising and marketing activities to maintain standards of community engagement and organizational branding to ensure Special Kids is well represented as a Christian non-profit in our community.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

 

Community Engagement: The priority of the Director of Development is to ensure the mission of Special Kids is being met through each community interaction. The Director will ensure that the development and marketing team members are operating compassionately, effectively, and efficiently. Success is measured by assessing the holistic growth of investor retention, special events fundraising, grant funding support, longevity of volunteers and team members, patient referrals and reduced operational issues. Works closely with the Executive Director to ensure proper communications and training is provided for each team member and Key Performance Indicator goals are being met on a regular basis. The Director of Development engages and enlists support from the community-at-large.

 

Fund Development Operations: The Director prepares a strategic development plan with short and long-range goals in alignment with the Executive Director and Board of Directors Strategic plan. The Director ensures effective and efficient operations by promoting best practices in fundraising standards, planning, workflow, and adherence to policies and procedures. Analyzes operations and CRM systems, identifies trends and challenges in fundraising, and implements changes to enhance operations and community engagement. Prepares and administers department budget in alignment with Special Kids goals, strategic vision, and company operational budget. The Director of Development also functions as a part of the development team. Oversees the work of the marketing team to enhance brand image, patient referrals, and promotion of relationship building and maintenance. Provides direction to staff as needed.

 

Employee Performance Management: Motivates, directs, and manages the performance of team members in order to achieve identified goals. This includes goal setting, performance evaluation, coaching and counseling for continuous improvement, team building activities, and training that is geared toward achieving a high performing, highly engaged team environment.

 

Organization Leadership: Provides strong servant leadership on-site. Is a strong source of guidance and direction for marketing and development team members. Supports strength and unity of the development and marketing team. Works closely with the Executive Director and Leadership Team to ensure provision of resources for clinical and program team members.

 

Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.

 

Supervisory Responsibilities: Manages employees in multiple employee teams including, Events, Fundraising, Grant Writing, Marketing and Volunteer Coordinating and is responsible for overall direction, coordination, and evaluation. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising employee performance; and addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education and/or Experience 

Bachelor’s degree from four-year college or university in Business, Marketing, Mass Communication, or other related field and 3-5 years related experience and/or training in not-for-profit fundraising. A minimum of 2 years leadership experience required and experience within a not-for-profit setting preferred. Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred.

 

Computer Skills

To be successful in this job, an individual should have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software and web-based applications such as electronic medical records.

 

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Certified Fundraising Executive (CFRE) preferred. CPR certification recommended.
