Job Summary

The Director of Development works closely with the Rooftop Executive Director to create and implement a fundraising strategy for the Middle Tennessee area. This role will oversee a donor relationship portfolio, outreach, and fundraising events.  The expectation is that donor relationships will expand with a higher percentage of donations through a more developed fundraising approach.

Job Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute fundraising strategies to identify and engage donors; create development targets for appropriate goal setting.
  • Steward, renew and upgrade donors with established giving histories.
  • Meet with donors in person and by phone to explain the mission and purpose of the organization and to solicit funds.
  • Lead the Development Committee to plan and coordinate fundraising and community events.
  • In coordination with the ED, leverage Board and other key volunteers to expand the donor base of the organization.
  • Alongside the ED, oversee all grant writing while managing the relationships with foundations, corporations, government agencies, and United Way.
  • Work closely with the staff to provide opportunities for donors to see the mission in action and highlight any volunteer engagement.
  • Represent the organization as needed at community events, special events, churches, corporate fairs, and other donor-facing opportunities.
  • Ensure Rooftop adheres to its written guidelines for marketing/branding, data integrity, gift processing, acknowledgments, and recognition.
  • Accountable for keeping information about assigned donors up to date within the Bloomerang database.
  • Prepare monthly development reports for the Board and executive leadership.
  • Generate accurate donor reports and mailing lists from the Bloomerang database system.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • 5+ years preferred of successful donor-facing fundraising, writing, marketing, meeting, and event management, and handling shifting priorities
  • History of success managing multiple projects in a professional setting with little day-to-day supervision
