Job Summary

The Director will report to and works closely with the Associate Executive Director in overseeing all programmatic aspects of the organization’s employment and community day supports. The Director is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day operations of all employment and day support programs and services to supported individuals. The position is responsible to provide the leadership, management and vision to ensure the organization has the proper operational controls, administrative, and resources in place to sustain and grow the programs and to ensure high performance, financial strength and operating efficiency.

Job Responsibilities

1 Demonstrate visionary, highly effective, inspiring leadership by actively guiding and developing the agency’s Employment and Community Day Supports.

 

2 Assures the effective and efficient operations of employment and day services by providing direction and indirect supervision to staff members across all teams and program areas involving community employment and community day supports.

 

3 Assures that people supported in employment and day services are engaged in meaningful activities exhibiting best practice approaches by coordinating the overall program planning and implementation process; coordinating activities with service coordinators, health care providers, and other agency administrative and residential staff.

 

4 Assures that employment outcomes are realized for all persons supported by being knowledgeable of employment guidelines and funding sources and requirements; coordinating the activities of other agency staff involved in employment; continuously making employment outcomes a priority, while enacting an employment first policy.

 

5 Establishes quality and reliability standards for program implementation process by assuring that supports meet the standards and criteria established by the agency, funding sources, or other regulatory guidelines; assuring that support staff adhere to the specifics of the service plans and are knowledgeable of the specific supports identified, the number of billable units, staffing requirements, documentation requirements, dates of service, etc.

 

6 Establishes cooperative, collaborative and/or contractual relationships with other employment-related organizations (e.g., Vocational Rehabilitation, public schools, Employment and Community First CHOICES) in order to assure that community members with a disability find and maintain employment.

 

7 Ensures planning, monitoring, and appraisal of employee work results by training supervisors to coach and correct employees; scheduling management conferences with employees, hearing and resolving conflicts; counseling employees and supervisors.

 

8 Ensures that employment and day services maintain high quality management and direct support staff by participation in the recruiting, selecting, and orienting process; assuring that staff have adequate skills to perform their essential job duties; providing or securing necessary training or retraining; conducting periodic informational meetings.

 

9 Ensures regulatory compliance of employment and day support operations by monitoring and implementing applicable state and federal requirements; investigating problems; maintaining records.

 

10 Achieves financial objectives by actively participating in the development of operational budgets; monitoring compliance with budgets; making revisions in program activities and composition as required.

 

11 Contributes to the agency’s effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; and recommending options and courses of action; implementing directives.

 

12 Ensures effective communication by being physically present at sites where employment or day support activities or operations are occurring on a regularly scheduled and unscheduled basis; scheduling frequent meetings with management staff; responding to telephone calls and messages on a timely basis.

 

13 Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional organizations.

 

14 Maintains confidentiality by not revealing privileged information and records concerning persons supported, their families, or other agency staff, as well as any additional information concerning the agency, its staff, clientele, or operations that may be considered to be of a confidential nature.

 

15 Represents the agency, its services, and the people supported to the public as required by participating in the agency’s public information efforts, including written and oral presentations, participating in community task forces or committees, and becoming familiar with staff of other employment organizations.

 

16 Contributes to the team effort by accomplishing related results as needed.

 

WORKING CONDITIONS

Works both in offices and in home and community locations. Schedule may vary, including nights and weekends. Works effectively with minimal supervision. Position is exempt under FLSA guidelines.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences and four years of experience in developmental disabilities or a related field, or a master’s degree in one of the behavioral sciences and two years’ experience in developmental disabilities, vocational rehabilitation or a related field.

 

Must possess demonstrated leadership ability, the ability to communicate effectively with diverse audiences both orally and in writing, to oversee broad and detailed planning efforts, excellent computer skills, an understanding and working knowledge of personnel and staffing issues, employment services and program planning and implementation.
