STATEMENT OF JOB 

The Director of Communications and Public Awareness is responsible for all aspects of external communication with members, local chapters and the general community.  The Director is further responsible for increasing awareness of The Arc Tennessee and its mission within the general public.

Job Responsibilities

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES

GENERAL

  • Uphold the mission, positions, and values of The Arc Tennessee
  • Comply with fiscal, legal, and agency requirements
  • Role model behaviors of trust, competence, vision, and inspiration
  • Involve others in planning and problem solving
  • Expand knowledge and skills through on-the-job, program sponsored, and outside educational opportunities
  • Possess a general knowledge of The Arc as a national, state, and local organization

 

DUTIES OF JOB

Communications and Public Awareness

  1. Working with Program Directors on an ongoing basis to ensure that the various websites for The Arc Tennessee display content that is current and relevant
  2. Develop and maintain electronic listservs
  3. Facilitate all aspects of electronic communication to appropriate listservs
  4. Develop and maintain a supply of brochures, information sheets, flyers, directories, and other publications as requested for various programs, projects and fundraising events of The Arc TN
  5. Coordinate publication of the Connection quarterly newsletter including but not limited to writing articles, soliciting articles from others, layout of newsletter and communication with the printer
  6. Coordinate, design and implement Social Media Content across all media platforms (Facebook, LinkedIn, Instagram, Twitter)
  7. Tracking and reporting analytics to public awareness committee and with Leadership
  8. Serve as graphics designer for banners, billboards, t-shirts, etc.
  9. Serve as photographer or coordinate photography at events of The Arc Tennessee
  10. Coordinate production of promotional videos
  11. Building community relationships and partnerships with other like-minded organizations, non-profits, for-profits and community resources
  12. Building community relationships and partnerships with local media including digital content, newspaper, television and radio/podcasts

PROGRAM

  1. Promote the activities of The Arc Tennessee through exhibiting and presenting at various events
  2. Coordinate local arrangements, contracts, and communications aspects of the TN Disability MegaConference, and provide support to other MegaConference committees as needed
  3. Coordinate all aspects of The Arc Tennessee annual awards program including but not limited to nomination, and scoring process, dinner arrangements, awards presentation, and emcees.
  4. Coordinate all aspects of the MCO DSP awards reception including but not limited to nomination and scoring process, reception arrangements, awards presentation, and speakers
  5. Participate on various task forces, advisory councils and other community committees as appropriate
  6. Resource Development/Strategy to expand online resources for CDMS, including but not limited to webinars, virtual trainings, and digital content
  7. Provide information and referral and technical assistance to people calling or emailing The Arc Tennessee for assistance

MANAGEMENT/ADMINISTRATIVE

  1. Supervise The Arc Tennessee Administrative Assistant/Community Liaison
  2. Supervise the Local Chapter and Membership Coordinator for The Arc Tennessee and
  3. Serve as staff liaison to the Public Awareness/Awards Committee and other board committees as assigned
  4. Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Master’s or Bachelor’s degree preferred; high school diploma with at least five years of experience in a non-profit or human services field may substitute for college degree
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills, and presentation skills
  • Experience working with volunteers
  • Excellent organizational skills
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office including Outlook, Word, Excel, Access, Power Point, Publisher, Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Dreamweaver, Illustrator, Photoshop, Acrobat) or other publications and website software
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines
  • Reliable transportation
