Job Summary

The Director of Marketing and Communications is responsible for the execution of communication and marketing strategies that support the Foundation’s mission of raising funds and increasing community support for Nashville Public Library.

The Director must regularly exhibit creativity, efficiency, and strong communication skills in a collaborative team environment, to enhance and protect the organization’s brand.  The Director of Marketing and Communication reports to the NPLF President.

Job Responsibilities

  • Create and execute a comprehensive annual marketing and communications plan that supports the goals of the fundraising staff and raises the visibility of the Foundation in the community.
  • Analyze communications data, donor insights, and emerging trends to make strategic decisions to support the Foundation’s fundraising efforts.
  • Manage the development, distribution, and maintenance of all print and electronic collateral, including but not limited to, the NPLF annual report, monthly e-news, brochures, donor communications, invitations to special events and impact reports for funders. Design capabilities a plus.
  • Work with NPLF leadership team to make sure all external communications are in one brand voice – including website, sponsorship proposals, talking points, presentations, press releases and publications.
  • Develop and regularly publish social media content that clearly articulates the Foundation’s story, advances its message, elevates issues of importance to the Foundation and the Library, and highlights funders and their work.
  • Oversee development and production of materials for NPLF’s major fundraising events including but not limited to the NPL Literary Award weekend (Patrons Party, Public Lecture and Gala), Picnic with the Library, and Carnegie Society Book Club.
  • Direct the efforts and support of the Communications Task Force.
  • Acts as a liaison with the Library’s marketing team, vendors, and/or contract employees.
  • Manage the Foundation’s relationships with graphic designers, printers, consultants, marketing agencies, and other marketing-related vendors.
  • Maintain the Marketing & Communications budget.

Qualifications

  • Strong background in fundraising strategy, communications, and Nashville’s non-profit community
  • Strong writing and editing skills
  • Knowledge and understanding of WordPress, MailChimp, and social media platforms
  • Working knowledge of Canva, Adobe Creative Suite, specifically Illustrator and InDesign. Familiarity with Blackbaud is a plus
  • A highly collaborative style–an ability to manage a variety of key initiatives concurrently and in partnership with staff, board members, volunteers, donors, program participants, and other supporters
  • Strong written, oral, interpersonal, and presentation skills and the ability to effectively interface with senior leadership
  • A bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, public relations, or related field
  • Minimum of five years of marketing experience, ideally within a complex nonprofit entity
