Job Summary
This is a non-civil Service position in the Office of Family Safety charged with the management of advocacy services provided at one of the Office of Family Safety’s (OFS) two Family Justice Centers – the Jean Crowe Advocacy Center (JCAC). This position is also responsible for program development, innovation, and implementation within the JCAC. This position reports to the Deputy Director of Programs.
Supervision Exercised/Supervision Received
This is a high-level management position that provides direct oversight of the client advocacy program at the Jean Crowe Advocacy Center (JCAC). It supervises Assistant Directors and senior-level staff and works with the Director of Client Services at the Family Safety Center and the Director of High-Risk Case Management as the client services leadership team. The position works under the direct supervision of the Deputy Director of Programs.
Working Environment/Physical Demands
The work environment involves the management of individuals who work with the trauma of victims of interpersonal violence. The Jean Crowe Advocacy Center (JCAC) is located inside the Ben West Municipal Building, connected to the Justice A.A. Birch Building Courthouse.
Job Responsibilities
Employee Development
- Provide ongoing feedback/coaching and quality assurance checks on client service provision through job shadowing, observation, and routine check-ins
- Oversee on-boarding of new advocacy staff and continual skill-building training with advocacy staff
- Advise staff on how to best assist high-risk and high-needs clients
- Support advocates by addressing court-related needs and issues across multiple courtrooms
- Complete probationary and annual advocacy staff employee performance evaluations
- Complete performance coaching and assist HR Liaison with progressive disciplinary action with advocacy staff as needed
- Conduct bi-weekly check-ins with the Assistant Director of Client Services and Senior Staff
- Oversee professional development of advocacy staff
- Assist with interviewing and hiring advocacy staff
Program Management & Development
- Ensure quality assurance with client services provision and data
- Report advocacy efforts and client outcomes to the department head and Mayor’s Office
- Ensure compliance with best-practice and trauma-informed advocacy
- Address with client service issues, crisis management, and client concerns
- Responsible for programmatic policy and protocol development
- Responsible for court-related program development, innovation, and implementation
- Works with the Director of Client Advocacy at the Family Safety Center and the Director of High-Risk Case Management to coordinate cohesive client services provision and innovation over all three programs
- Identifies gaps in service provision and client experience in the court-based Center as well as within the courtrooms
- Develop solutions to identified gaps and create buy-in for innovative solutions and their implementation
- Supports the Deputy Director of Programs in overarching OFS program development and visioning as well as criminal justice system-related initiatives
Partner Coordination
- Oversee partnerships with Offender Accountability stakeholders, such as the District Attorney’s Office, Probation, and Batterer Intervention Programs
- Oversee processes and procedures for High-Risk Probation partnerships and meetings alongside the OFS Director of High-Risk Programs
- Coordinate and maintain professional relationships with court-specific personnel, including judges, clerks, court officers, DCSO staff, probation, the District Attorney’s Office, and other attorneys.
- Coordinate and maintain professional relationships with additional Office of Family Safety professional partners, including the Metro Nashville Police Department, the Department of Children’s Services, and non-profit service providers.
- Attend Office of Family Safety multidisciplinary team meetings as assigned
- Maintain up-to-date information on changes implemented by the courts and partners
- Provide tours and training of both centers for community members, partners, and donors
Qualifications
Required Skills:
- Ability to work with diverse staff and community partners
- Crisis management experience
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong administrative skills with Microsoft programs (Excel, Access, PowerPoint)
- Excellent written and oral communication skills
- Strong organizational skills
Required Qualifications:
- Experience supervising and scheduling a large staff
- Experience working in the criminal justice system, especially in a courthouse setting
- Demonstrated understanding of the dynamics of interpersonal violence and effective intervention strategies
- Demonstrated ability and willingness to engage in positive collaboration with individuals and groups with diverse perspectives
- Bachelor’s degree in social work or counseling or a related degree from an accredited college or university
- Background check
Preferred Experience, Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Problem solver, highly efficient, and detail-oriented
- Experience working on domestic violence, sexual assault, or other abuse issues
- Experience with training staff and performance coaching
- Experience with data management and analytics, particularly Microsoft Access
- Experience working in or with both non-profits and the criminal justice system
- Experience working with multidisciplinary teams/collaboratives
- Experience working under and reporting on grants
- Thorough knowledge of the Davidson County court systems, resources available to victims, and the ability to navigate these resources.
- Master’s degree in social work or counseling or related degree from an accredited college or university
