Job Summary
The Tennessee Naturalist Program is designed to teach adults about the natural history of Tennessee through professional instruction and to encourage participants to volunteer for environmental agencies. Upon completion of the program and requirements, participants become certified Tennessee naturalists.
The Tennessee Naturalist Program is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) with an all-volunteer board of directors. We are seeking new volunteer board members for a two-year term beginning in March 2025. The duties and commitments of all board members include:
- Attending quarterly Zoom meetings for important discussions and decisions regarding the program’s operation and mission.
- Serving on ad hoc committees as needed.
- Completing additional tasks for the program as needed.
In addition to having a passion for natural history education, conservation, and stewardship, we are seeking new board members with experience and expertise in Development, Fundraising, and Grant Writing.
A Development Specialist would lead efforts to secure additional funding through diverse revenue streams, including grants, donations, sponsorships, and fundraising events. This role is critical for helping the Tennessee Naturalist Program expand its impact and ensure sustainable funding for the future.
Job Responsibilities
- Fundraising Strategy: Help with developing and implementing fundraising plans, encompassing donor engagement, sponsorships, grants, and events.
- Grant Writing: Identify grant opportunities that align with the program’s mission. Assist in preparing and submitting grant applications, and help manage follow-up requirements.
- Donor Cultivation and Stewardship: Participate in cultivating relationships with existing and potential donors. Help us with strategies for donor retention, including recognition and engagement programs.
- Event Planning: Work on fundraising events, such as virtual or in-person nature events, to generate revenue and raise program awareness.
- Corporate Partnerships: Be on the lookout for relationships with corporate sponsors and local businesses that align with TNP’s goals and mission.
Qualifications
- Experience with successful nonprofit fundraising, development, and/or grant writing.
- Grant-writing skills and experience with government, foundation, or corporate grants.
- Experience with donor relationship management and fundraising events.
