Job Summary

As a crucial member of our team, the Development Manager will assist the Executive Director with identifying and cultivating donors, planning and promoting events, and executing fundraising and grant writing activities among many other tasks.

A Step Ahead Foundation of Middle Tennessee offers women of middle Tennessee free, long-acting reversible contraception (LARC), with the goal of preventing unplanned pregnancy. A Step Ahead improves educational, economic, and health outcomes for women and children in Middle Tennessee. By providing education about, and completely free access to LARC – the most effective, reversible methods of birth control – we enable women to plan their lives. By helping women avoid unplanned pregnancies, we hope to increase positive pregnancy outcomes for both the mother and the child, lower infant mortality, and improve family life. By connecting women with effective family planning, we hope to encourage education and career opportunities for women.

Job Responsibilities

Maintains development plan to meet or exceed all fundraising goals.

Operates donor acquisition and stewardship programs to grow donor base and ensure a broad base of funding support for A Step Ahead from individuals, family foundations, grants, and corporate sponsorships.

Manage relationships with individual donors.

Prepares donor acknowledgments for signature.

Plans and executes all fundraising events utilizing the development committee, event committees, volunteers, and staff.

Manages online donation program, and maintains donor database.

Assists in creating promotional materials, including appeals and mailings. 

Coordinates Development Committee to provide input for fundraising initiatives and reach development goals.

Ensure short-term and long-term goals are met and proper relationships are maintained with grant making foundations. 

Develop and coordinate grant program.

Submit grant applications.

Maintains database for all grant prospects, submissions and reporting requirements.

Qualifications

​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​​Experience in donor solicitation and stewardship, foundation development and maintenance, and grant writing/reporting

Demonstrate superior written and verbal communication skills

Familiarity with the Nashville community

2-4 years fundraising/development or related experience preferred. 

College Degree

Requires effective verbal and written interpersonal and communication skills.

Requires the handling of highly confidential information with skill and discretion. 

Requires competence in planning and organizing work. 

Excellent organizational skills, attention to detail and the ability to handle multiple projects efficiently. 

Ability to manage time effectively and handle conflicting priorities and deadlines appropriately. 

Ability to work as a team member and independently.
