Job Summary
POSITION SUMMARY – Development Director
Reporting directly to the President and CEO, the Development Director is responsible for planning, organizing, and directing Governor’s Early Literacy Foundation’s fundraising efforts. The Development Director works closely with the President, the GELF Team, and Board of Directors in all development and fund-raising endeavors. A new position within the Foundation, the Development Director will have opportunity to shape the necessary infrastructure and components of the Foundation’s development function alongside the executive team in support of our statewide early literacy initiatives.
Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Develop and oversee the Foundation’s annual fundraising plan
- Develop and launch the following programs:
- Major gifts program
- Corporate sponsorship program
- Monthly donor program
- Maintain ongoing communications with private and corporate donors
- Research grant opportunities and donor relation programs at local, state and federal institutions
- Ensure timely and accurate grant report deliveries to funders
- Collaborate with staff on the management and planning of fundraising events and donor receptions
- Develop both print and digital marketing collateral related to fundraising in collaboration with our marketing and communications team.

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
This position has no supervisory responsibilities.
TRAVEL
- Regular Statewide travel required.
- Occasional travel for overnight meetings, fundraisers, etc. may be necessary.
- Current driver’s license required.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
Education: Bachelor’s degree required.
Experience: Minimum of 7 years nonprofit fundraising/development experience.
Skills & Capabilities:
- Strong organizational skills that reflect ability to perform and prioritize multiple tasks seamlessly with excellent attention to detail
- Very strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build relationships with stakeholders, including staff, board members, external partners and donors
- Planning and evaluating fundraising campaigns and activities.
- Managing the Foundation fundraising income programs to achieve budget.
- Identifying and stewarding prospective donors.
- Advising and assisting statewide program volunteers in fundraising efforts.
- Maintain current knowledge of fundraising trends and the nonprofit community.
- Communicating with donors via email, phone or social media.
- Answering donors in a timely fashion.
- Using prospect research tools and donor database to build donor relationships.
- Creating solicitation materials for the foundation’s team, board, and volunteers.
- Excellent written and oral communication.
