Job Summary

The primary functions of the Development Director are: plans and implements programs to maximize the organization’s charitable gift support from unrestricted donations, gifts and grants restricted to specific, approved organizational priorities, and deferred gifts. The director develops and manages progressively productive, relationships with donors and prospective donors to inform, cultivate, motivate, solicit and steward donors and prospective donors including individuals, foundations, corporations, associations and churches. The director designs and oversees processes to identify prospective new donors, to assess donor capacity and propensity and to manage relationship development (donor management systems). Also, the director recommends and produces events—cultivation, stewardship, and fundraising events— and develops communication tools and collateral materials to support prospect management activities such as solicitation letters and proposals.

Job Responsibilities

  • Superior communication skills, oral and written, as well as superior interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office 365 and CRM platform such as Salesforce or Blackbaud
  • Strong relationship-building and customer service skills
  • Detail oriented, ability to multi-task, work under pressure, and meet deadlines
  • Exercises good judgment, discretion, integrity, and professionalism
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to attend work-related events and meetings
  • Shows initiative and works well independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability, interest, and willingness to work with diverse staff and clients
  • Ability to prepare reports, develop grant proposals, and work within established budgets

 

 

Qualifications

  • Prefer Master’s degree and fifteen years’ experience in meeting financial revenue goals via development, (nonprofit or otherwise), sales/fundraising, prospect management, or related field.
  • Minimum of Bachelor’s degree and ten years of management/supervisory experience in a related field.
  • Knowledge/experience in the field of public relations, marketing, communications, media relations.
  • Knowledge/experience in benefit programs/social service programs for residents of Nashville and surrounding counties.
