Job Summary
The Nashville Business Incubation Center (NBIC) is a nonprofit organization that cultivates the growth and development of small business owners, with a focus on women, minorities, and veterans, through 360-degree business support, knowledgeable mentors, and a results-driven curriculum. The Communications and Marketing Manager is a key leadership role within the NBIC office, managing a portfolio of existing investors and strategic partners and creating a pipeline of new investors and partners in support of fundraising and client program events. This position develops, coordinates, and implements high-level integrated, multi-channel campaigns around marketing, fundraising, and general brand awareness that positions NBIC as a non-profit leader while supporting NBIC’s fundraising and programmatic goals. The position is responsible for leading and executing key events and implementing marketing strategies to build the NBIC brand experience to support the mission of NBIC. The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, energetic, creative team player who thrives on building relationships and connecting passion for the NBIC mission through fundraising and program events, along with ensuring communications advance the NBIC impact. This position reports to the Director of Operations and Finance and CEO.
Job Responsibilities
Tiered Responsibilities:
Establish communications and marketing strategy to reach fundraising goals (fundraising goals established by CEO) utilizing the ADDIE model
- Analyze (Fundraising goals)
- Partner with the CEO, Board of Directors, and staff to establish fundraising goals and strategies to meet and/or exceed revenue goals.
- Design (Communications and Marketing Strategy)
- Develop and manage timelines for various fundraising activities to ensure strategic plans and critical fundraising processes are conducted in a timely manner.
- Develop (Create materials, deliverables, timelines, benchmarks/milestones)
- Establish and communicate timelines for events and marketing of events with necessary stakeholders.
- Oversee and/or create all necessary event collateral, deliverables, activations, and other materials necessary for events and marketing of events.
- Implement (execute on deliverables)
- Oversee the implementation of fundraising strategies, including maintaining an active portfolio of current and prospective corporate and individual supporters.
- Evaluate (Collect necessary data to discern effectiveness and make recommended changes)
- Ensure accurate data processing and acknowledgment of gifts and related fundraising activity relevant to the above-mentioned focus areas, coordinate gift processing, donor records management, and donor recognition.
- Create monthly reports for the Executive Director and Board of Directors
Serve as NBIC brand representative by fostering current and forging new relationships and coordinating and hosting events
- Coordinate with leadership team members to cultivate relationships with new individual and corporate leaders
- Establish and execute all assigned event logistics, including leadership and oversight for all event production, from planning, invitations, programs/brochures to wrap-up (timelines, meetings, staffing, run of show, etc.)
- Secure and coordinate all appropriate permits, and licensing prior to events
- Identify and solicit in-kind donations for events
- Work with the development team members and event chairs on strategies to increase sponsorship revenue and engagement from corporate donors.
Collaborate with other marketing team members for coordinated marketing processes and deliverables
- Ensure brand consistency in all NBIC programs and communications, and manage cross-functional efforts related to furthering the mission of NBIC.
- Implement marketing strategies aligned with the NBIC strategic plan
- Develop marketing collateral pieces, including coordinating the design, layout, and printing process. Work with the team to create and produce materials for the organization.
- Maintain social media content with support from a PR company, initiate and develop ongoing relationships with local media outlets to increase awareness of Junior Achievement and promote specific initiatives, programs, and events
Manage funding/revenue cycle from donor, grant, and sponsorship contributions
- Manages the tracking of revenues, invoicing, and expense and budget adjustments.
- Ability to solicit and close gifts of $25,000 or more.
Qualifications
Dispositions/Skills Requirements
- Communication: Strong oral and written communication skills, with a proven ability to synthesize and tailor complex material into simple and easily digestible content by experts and non-experts alike. Ability to be an effective spokesperson and advocate for NBIC’s mission.
- Technology: Good computer skills for generating reports, viewing marketing metrics, extracting data, and sharing info with the CEO. Use a variety of software tools for communication, marketing, programming, and office operations. (Examples of tools may include but are not limited to: Microsoft Office: Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint; Adobe, Basecamp; Calendly; Canva; DocuSign; Google G Suite; Hootsuite, Linktree; Mailchimp; Nexudus; QuickBooks time tracking; WordPress, etc.).
- Operations / Business / Financial Knowledge: Understanding of NBIC’s operations and service capabilities, or an ability to become a quick study, that translates this knowledge into practical and impactful messaging that adds value to entrepreneurs and our stakeholders.
- Project and Personal Management: You are a self-starter capable of working independently but also as part of a team. You can also manage your time and priorities and maintain records of how your time was spent.
- Knowledge, use, and passion for the underserved community, are a plus.
Job Qualifications and Competencies:
While we don’t expect you to have all of these qualifications, here are some things that might make you stand out:
- Bachelor’s degree and 2-4 years related experience or an equivalent combination.
- Related experience (including but not limited to) nonprofit development, marketing, PR, and fundraising.
- Knowledge of current trends in charitable giving in the areas of capital campaigns, major gifts, or planned giving.
- A track record of designing and deploying digital experiences is preferred, like using Canva, but not required.
- Systems and process management skills sufficient to manage a complex mix of revenue-generating activities.

Benefits
Salary includes 2 weeks paid time off and sick time after 1 year
Work Environment
Some flexibility includes a hybrid option of in-person and remote work as deemed appropriate and in accordance with the needs of the organization. Currently, Programs are operating online virtually but the organization intends to later migrate back to in-person training with a virtual option.
Occasionally, work may be required outside of standard operating hours, especially with regard to meeting deadlines for grants and participating in fundraising events and special occasions or celebrations involving stakeholders. Attend meetings as directed. Schedule and facilitate marketing-related meetings. Take relevant meeting notes and share them with attendees.
During off-site work, you must provide your own workspace, internet, and phone. We will provide a computer and basic office supplies.
