Job Summary

The Database Manager is responsible for designing, maintaining, and updating the organization’s customer relations management software platforms – Blackbaud Alru and Blackbaud Financial Edge.  This includes analyzing informational requirements, database specifications and enforcement of database standards.

About NMAAM – NMAAM is the only museum dedicated to preserving the legacy and celebrating the accomplishments of the many music genres created, influenced, or inspired by African Americans. The Museum will share the story of the American Soundtrack, integrating history and interactive technology to bring the musical heroes of the past into the present.

Job Responsibilities

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Create, develop, maintain, and control the organization’s donor directory, which include names, addresses, descriptions, memberships, pledges and related payments and criteria for categorizing donors into various constituent groups.
  • Ensure the integrity of database system by developing, documenting, and enforcing security procedures and access controls.
  • Compose and develop protocols for levels of access and security necessary to view, print, sort, enter, revise, or delete materials.
  • Design, implement, and periodically test database backup and recovery procedures.
  • Develop guidelines for database training for data-entry staff, data analysts, and end users.
  • Collaborate with the Development (fundraising), Operations (ticket sales and events) and Finance (receivables) teams to identify needs and refine system to maximize multipurpose uses.
  • Document database management process, procedures, and policies.
  • Ensure that linkage between Altru and Financial Edge yields correct and reliable data.
  • Collaborate with the Operations team to ensure that tickets sales/promotions and special events are properly reflected in Altru.
  • Partner with Development team to assist with membership and revenue functions.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree required with concentration in business or computer technology
  • Proficient understanding of non-profit/fundraising concepts related to fundraising, membership, and annual fund
  • 3 – 5 years of CRM/database management and processing experience along with analysis and reporting expertise required. Blackbaud/Financial Edge/Altru experience strongly preferred.

Knowledge/Skills/Abilities

  • Supports the mission, vision and strategic goals of NMAAM to serve both internal and external customers.
  • Proven proficiency in Blackbaud Altru and Blackbaud Financial Edge.
  • Proven computer and software use skills, especially MS Office.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage multiple workstreams.
  • Accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to gain the confidence and respect of donors, board members, and staff.
  • Experience in handling confidential information and maintaining confidentiality of sensitive information.
  • Demonstrates ability to work effectively with others; maintains confidentiality.
  • Provides proactive, creative cross-functional thinking and ideas to enhance service to customers.
  • Interpersonal, organizational, time management and leadership skills.
