Job Summary
This is a full-time non-civil Service position working with preschool and elementary school-aged children and educators in a formal or informal educational setting. Reporting to the Program Manager, the Curriculum & Training Coordinator works in conjunction with programs and library staff to design and implement curriculum for teachers, educators, children, and parents. Presents story times and other programming throughout Davidson County. Some evening and weekend work is required. Other duties as assigned.
Bringing Books to Life! (BBTL) is an award-winning literacy outreach initiative created by Nashville Public Library in collaboration with various agencies and institutions to serve the families and children of Nashville. The program utilizes the Library’s unique troupe of performing artists and historic collection of marionettes to foster reading readiness through literature-based theatre presentations, classroom lessons, and family literacy workshops. BBTL, sponsored by the Nashville Public Library Foundation, seeks to make the library a meaningful part of the lives of children and their families and emphasizes the importance of reading to children.
Job Responsibilities
- Creating developmentally appropriate curriculum materials and outreach programming for Wishing Chair Productions’ puppet shows and other Library-based resources.
- Developing educator workshops and training materials aligned with Tennessee Early Learning Development Standards, NAEYC accreditation standards, and Tennessee Academic Standards.
- Collaborating with the Family Literacy Coordinator to develop literacy workshops for parents and families.
- Researching appropriate resources and available materials for curriculum.
- Purchasing curricular materials and related items.
- Training BBTL staff on teacher workshops and story times.
- Conducting teacher training, story times, and other program activities.
- Supervising interns and volunteers as assigned.
- Assisting with other BBTL programming as needed.
Qualifications
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
High School diploma and four (4) years of experience working with children and educators OR Bachelor’s degree and some (1-2 years) experience working with children and educators
REQUIRED LICENSES:
Valid “Class D” Driver’s License
PREFERRED EXPERIENCE, KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, and ABILITIES:
- Fluent bilingual language skills, Spanish or Arabic preferred
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood /education or related field
- Experience working with young children in a formal or informal educational setting
- Experience developing and conducting workshops and training sessions for teachers and parents
- Experience creating arts-based curriculum
- Comprehensive knowledge of children’s literature
- Skill in using computer software (Microsoft Office) and online resources
