Job Summary

The Consumer Engagement Manager engages, supports, and advocates for consumer engagement and the development of consumer leaders.  The Manager of Consumer Engagement will engage with expertise and compassion the homeless health care community (including consumers, health centers, medical respite programs, consumer advisory boards, and shelters) in order to further the work of the Council in the areas of patient activation, patient engagement, workforce development, health education, health equity, outreach, research, and advocacy.

Job Responsibilities

  • Provides support to the National Consumer Advisory Board (CAB) and its subcommittees, including administration, elections, annual work plans, mentoring programs, recruitment of individual members, leadership training and development, and regional structure development
  • Creates and supports a Consumer Engagement Committee comprised of health center staff who support consumer leadership development within health centers and medical respite programs.  This committee will inform resources and respond to technical assistance requests in order to promote consumer engagement and consumer leadership development
  • Provides leadership on consumer governance and engagement, identifies and promotes promising practices for consumer leaders, researches issues related to consumer engagement, assesses needs of consumer leaders within the homeless health care community, advocates for greater consumer involvement and health center support, and provides resources to those seeking to engage their health center or develop consumer leadership within the HCH community. 
  • Completes all assigned deliverables identified in the National HCH Council’s Cooperative Agreement, including Consumer Participation Outreach Research projects, in-person, on-line and written training and educational needs.  Contributes to privately funded activities and trainings as needed.
  • Represent the Council and the value of consumer engagement and consumer leadership in assigned HRSA sponsored meetings, national conferences, partnerships, etc.
  • Performs other duties on an as-needed basis

Qualifications

Education and Experience:

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in social work, public health, psychology, sociology, or other relevant field desired.  Master’s degree preferred.  Three or more years of experience working with people experiencing homelessness can replace degree requirements. 
  • Experience working with marginalized populations; lived expertise is highly valued
  • Experience with MS Office, email and telephone communication, and virtual meeting platforms
  • Experience facilitating meetings

  • Strong interpersonal and social skills with demonstrated ability to engage service providers and those in need of assistance with professionalism, integrity, compassion, and understanding as a representative of the work and mission of the Council.

  • Possess strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Possess problem solving skills
  • Able to manage workflow and work remotely as needed
  • Personally supportive of the stated mission and values of the Council
  • Enjoys meeting new people and developing community engagement
  • Comfortable working with people from a variety of cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds
