Job Summary
The Tennessee Disability Coalition (Coalition) is seeking qualified applicants for a half-time, 20 hours per week Community Engagement Specialist Position. This position is funded by a CARES Act Grant through the end of September 2021. This role will be responsible for managing a community outreach and engagement effort, with a particular emphasis on reaching seniors and rural Tennessee, to reduce social isolation for individuals with disabilities. This work will contribute to the mission of the organization: to promote the full and equal participation of people with disabilities in all aspects of life. This individual must be comfortable working within a mission-driven not-for-profit organization.
Job Responsibilities
- Provide information and assistance to connect Tennesseans with disabilities and their family members to their larger communities and available disability services
- Establish and maintain regional and affinity Facebook groups to create a space for community and engagement for Tennesseans with disabilities
- Manage a check-in system via text or other communication to support individuals with disabilities
- Conduct a needs assessment to determine the type of equipment most needed to reduce social isolation for adults with disabilities in the state
- Manage a modest equipment lending program based on the results of the needs assessment conducted
Qualifications
- 2 years minimum experience in social service, social work, independent living or health care field
- Experience providing one-on-one support for vulnerable individuals
- Experience using social media for community outreach and engagement
- Excellent writing and computer skills
- Exceptional interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain trust
- Must have the ability to handle a variety of assignments within a given timeframe and with minimal supervision
- Must have the ability to interact effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds and cultural traditions
- Experience managing support groups for vulnerable populations, preferred
- Knowledge of resources available for Tennesseans with disabilities, preferred
