Job Summary

The Community Education Coordinator (Coordinator) participates in a yearlong term (1,700 hours) of AmeriCorps service supporting Turnip Green Creative Reuse’s (TGCR) mission of diverting materials from the landfill by accepting donations from businesses and individuals.  

The Coordinator is enthusiastic about sustainability, art, and education, and will use communication skills and teaching experience toincrease community outreach, involvement, and partnership building for TGCR. 

The Coordinator serves as part of a 23-person cohort of civic-minded AmeriCorps Members who receive skills training, professional development, and networking opportunities through a partnership between Turnip Green Creative Reuse and the Hands On Nashville (HON) AmeriCorps Program.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Assist with preparing, implementing, and creating curriculum for reuse-related art and education programming 
  • Create an onboarding training manual for sustainability and reuse art programs 
  • Create videos and other digital content for TGCR to use to promote the unique reuse possibilities 
  • Implement and update a monthly calendar of reuse education programming 
  • Collaborate with partner organizations and TGCR leadership to create site-specific education opportunities 
  • Strategize creative ways to increase outreach through tabling events and greater community awareness 
  • Implement and facilitate reuse curriculum within the shop, at schools, during events including birthday parties or community festivals, and as online digital content 
  • Connect with local artists to coordinate classes and sustainability workshops 
  • Develop a marketing strategy to promote education programming  
  • Prepare education kits tailored to the needs of the programs and classes 
  • Create and administer surveys to gauge program impact 

Qualifications

Preferred Knowledge & Skills:

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with strong customer service sensibility 
  • Passionate about sustainability and art 
  • Prior teaching experience preferred 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, deadline-oriented environment 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Commitment to fulfill a one-year term of service (August 17, 2020-August 8, 2021) 
  • Bachelor’s Degree  
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to transportation (Members will be reimbursed for service-related mileage.)  
  • U.S. Citizenship  
  • National Service Criminal History Check clearance

  • Living allowance of $17,000, paid bi-weekly throughout the term of service
