Work in one of the most beautiful places in Nashville! Formerly the family home of Mabel and Leslie Cheek, Cheekwood now serves the public as a botanical garden, arboretum, and museum with period rooms and art galleries. Cheekwood’s mission is to stimulate the mind and nurture the spirit, for not only our visitors, but our staff as well. We are currently seeking an energetic, organized, and creative Communications Coordinator to join the small, but mighty marketing and communications team at Cheekwood.

With a strong initiative to discover, create, and share content through multiple channels, the communications coordinator is an excellent storyteller, ensuring all messaging aligns with Cheekwood’s brand and strategic plan. Keeping the department running smoothly, the individual will coordinate, monitor, and measure Cheekwood’s marketing and communications efforts. In partnership with and under the direction of the director of marketing, the coordinator will serve as media liaison and be responsible for the scheduling of press and public relations events. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Be the lead copywriter and editor for Cheekwood.
  • Coordinate public relations efforts to ensure optimal and timely press coverage is synchronized with marketing efforts, including writing, editing, and sending press releases, advertisements, and images to media personnel, publications, and organizations.
  • Maintains local and regional media information services, serving as a media contact when appropriate.
  • Coordination with colleagues across departments to organize interviews, photo shoots, and other projects. Work with director of marketing, to greet and facilitate on-site activities of reporters and television crews.
  • Maintain archive of media coverage to share with key stakeholders.
  • Assists with the execution of the annual marketing plan and budget based on Cheekwood’s strategy for audience development and strategic plan.
  • Oversees the scheduling of advertising campaigns for Cheekwood’s seasonal festivals, exhibitions, special events, rentals, educational and public programs.
  • Update external event calendars to promote Cheekwood’s events, exhibitions, and programs 
  • Assist the digital marketing manager as needed with updating the website, posting on social media, and monitoring consumer-generated content.
  • Tracks and provides regular updates on website, social media, and email marketing analytics for the department.
  • Participate in the advancement of Cheekwood’s ongoing visitor research, including regular surveys, to assess visitor trends, satisfaction, and marketing success.
  • Represent Cheekwood at a variety of community and trade events.
  • Take promotional and event photos when needed and assist with image database management, uploading and tagging photos by hired professional photographers.
  • Assist with budget tracking. Manage credit card reporting, and invoice submissions.

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field, with at least 2 years of experience in communications, advertising, or public relations.
  • Must have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with content management system (WordPress preferred) as well as web traffic and social media analytics (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Facebook ads preferred).

Essential Qualifications:

  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills, including experience with writing for a broad range of audiences.
  • Copywriting and editing skills.
  • Strong administrative, organizational, and collaborative abilities; will work closely with all staff members and will often serve as a liaison between Cheekwood and media personnel, vendors, partners, and our broad public.
  • Contacts with Nashville’s media, marketing, and advertising industries a plus.
  • A commitment to being proactive and reliable, with close attention to detail, collegiality, and an ability to coordinate multiple projects while meeting deadlines.
  • Must be a team player.
  • Must have excellent computer skills including Microsoft Office, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Experience with content management system (WordPress preferred) as well as web traffic and social media analytics (Google Analytics, Google Ads, Facebook ads preferred).
  • Availability to work varied hours including some evenings and weekends.
  • A commitment to expanding access to Cheekwood for diverse audiences.
