Job Summary

The Clean Streams Coordinator (Coordinator) participates in a yearlong term of AmeriCorps service (1,700 hours) supporting the Cumberland River Compact’s (Compact) mission to enhance the health and enjoyment of the Cumberland River and its tributaries through education, collaboration, and action.  

The Coordinator works to expand the Compact’s Volunteer Program, connecting volunteers with their environment and educating them about environmental issues. The Coordinator furthers the Compact’s Clean Streams Initiative, reducing pollution in our waterways through volunteer cleanups, public education, and stream restoration. The Coordinator will gain experience with leadership, program coordination, and environmental efforts, as well as have access to regular opportunities to interact with government, nonprofit, and corporate partners. 

The Coordinator serves as part of a 23-person cohort of civic-minded individuals who receive skills training, professional development, and networking opportunities through a partnership between the Compact and the Hands On Nashville (HON) AmeriCorps Program. 

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Recruit and communicate with volunteers, coordinate volunteer training, and coordinate and promote volunteer events  
  • Expand litter recycling initiative 
  • Develop educational and outreach materials for the Compact’s programming, and create and update educational maps (recreation, water quality, and logistical) 
  • Coordinate and expand the Adopt-A-Stream program  
  • Coordinate stormwater retrofit projects by reaching out to residents, performing consultations, ordering plants, and assisting with installation 
  • Facilitate stream restoration planning and implementation 
  • Expand the DePave program through site selection, grant-writing, and partnership development, not to exceed 10% of service hours 
  • Launch the Compact’s native infiltration lawn program 

Qualifications

Preferred Knowledge & Skills:

  • Values clean water and possesses the drive to achieve goals through volunteer recruitment, event management, and restoration 
  • Confident public speaker with effective written and verbal communication skills  
  • Passionate about environmental sustainability  
  • Ability to do tasks outside, including lifting up to 50 pounds, in varying weather conditions throughout the year, with some evenings and weekends required 

Minimum Requirements:

  • Commitment to fulfill a one-year term of service (August 17, 2020-August 8, 2021) 
  • Bachelor’s Degree  
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable access to transportation (Members will be reimbursed for service-related mileage.)  
  • U.S. Citizenship  
  • National Service Criminal History Check clearance

  • Living allowance of $17,000, paid bi-weekly throughout the term of service
