Job Summary

The First Unitarian Universalist Church of Nashville, a liberal religious community, is committed to offering ‘top notch’ ministry to children and youth. We are seeking a part time Nursery / Childcare Coordinator for an 8-10 hour a week position.

This role supervises and coordinates the care of infants and toddlers, and elementary aged youth on occasion, during worships and other events requiring childcare. The primary responsibility is to manage, train, schedule and equip nursery workers and ensure that the young children of the church are well cared for in a loving and safe environment.

Job Responsibilities

Primary duties include:

  • Oversee the staff and volunteers who serve in the church nursery which includes recruiting, training, and scheduling.
  • Ensure staff and volunteers are interacting with the children and a variety of age appropriate activities are available.
  • Ensure that each parent and child is greeted as they arrive, welcoming them warmly and ensuring each child is signed in / out.
  • Ensure all church and nursery policies and procedures are communicated clearly and followed.
  • Ensure the Nursery is kept clean and well stocked, preforming regular and recurring safety checks to make sure operational equipment, and furniture are safe and ordering supplies as needed.
  • Respond to childcare request in a timely fashion and ensure they are covered.
  • Perform administrative duties such as tracking and reporting attendance, approving payroll, etc.


  • Experience working and caring for young children in a childcare environment is required with particular knowledge of young child development for infants and toddlers
  • Possess a bachelor’s degree, relating to child development preferred.
  • Have respect for the FUUN mission, purposes, and principles.
  • The Childcare Coordinator must possess communication and interpersonal skills, able to motivate and manage staff.
  • Strong organizational skills.
  • Accessible; quickly and easily reached by phone, text, or email.
  • Able to lift 30 pounds.
  • Trained in CPR and First Aid.
