POSITION SUMMARY: Reporting to the Executive Director, the Chief of Staff (CoS) provides leadership and strategic support to the ED as well as other leaders in the organization. The CoS is responsible for overall executive support, strategic planning, and supervision of Community Engagement leads. The candidate should be able to translate strategic goals into actionable plans, solve ambiguous problems address obstacles to achieving full implementation, and analyze information to present options and make recommendations to the Executive Director and Board.
Job Responsibilities
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES: At hiring in 2023, the Chief of Staff will have experienced direct reports and will work closely with the organization’s leadership team.
- Serve as a member of the organization’s senior leadership team, guiding and responding to high-level needs of the organization and interfacing with the board of directors.
- Serve as the ED’s administrative liaison to the Board of Directors including working with staff to prepare board reports.
- Lead weekly Community Engagement staff meetings and co-lead bi-weekly all staff meetings.
- Guide team through Entrepreneurial Operating System (EOS) – setting rocks for each quarter and weekly traction meetings to assess progress.
- Partner with the ED to enhance and build a public profile and deepen engagement with partners and high-level audiences.
- Develop and execute existing and new/unplanned/special projects that span the organization.
- At the ED’s direction and in collaboration with other leaders, support various programmatic areas such as events, and donor and volunteer relations.
- Oversee and facilitate the organization’s annual strategic planning process, including coordinating with all department/division heads, preparing detailed timelines, combining all plans into master plans, etc.
- Operates with a high degree of independent judgment to relieve the ED of administrative and business details.

- Strong ability to interpret complex information and clearly communicate messages simply to others.
- Ability to understand business financials and analyze various budgets, estimates, etc.
- Ability to strategize and problem-solve complex challenges.
- Excellent verbal, analytical, organizational, and written skills.
- Ability to act as a Tennessee Kids Belong Ambassador in the community.
- Model a leadership style that is open, supportive, collaborative, and respectful of all staff members.
- Interface and communicate effectively with colleagues at all levels and ability to thrive in a highly collaborative and mission-driven culture.
