Job Summary

The Chief Development Officer (CDO) is a key leadership role within Musicians On Call (MOC), a nonprofit organization that brings live and recorded music to the bedsides of patients, families, and caregivers in healthcare environments. The CDO will lead the organization’s fundraising efforts, providing vision and strategy in order to grow the organization’s donor base and exceed its revenue goals. The position will be responsible for developing and executing a strategic development plan and identifying, developing, and managing key relationships with donors, as well as forecasting and reporting revenue projections. This role requires a seasoned professional with a proven track record in building relationships, making major gift requests, and managing a team. They will report to the President & CEO and work closely with all department heads. This is an executive-level, full-time position based in Nashville, TN and salary is starting at $140,000.

Job Responsibilities

Development Strategy: 

  • Create and implement a comprehensive development strategy for the organization, including corporate contributions, major gifts, individual gifts, foundation grants, and planned giving.
  • Create and maintain pipelines and budgets to reach departmental goals.

Revenue Generation: 

  • Identify, cultivate, and close six- and seven-figure gifts.
  • Develop a cohesive strategy that unites all revenue streams and aligns with Musicians On Call’s mission, goals, strategic plan, and initiatives.
  • ​​Work directly with the Board to grow the organization’s fundraising efforts.
  • Oversee the creation of tools and materials used by the board and staff, including one-sheets, case statements, talking points, annual reports, etc.

Relationship Management: 

  • Cultivate and steer relationships with donors, Board members, and volunteers to foster community and inclusion. Occasional travel is expected in order to build and maintain relationships.
  • Create and lead a stewardship strategy for the organization to keep both active and inactive donors and volunteers engaged throughout the year.
  • Create the roadmap for growing the organization’s supporter base.

Collaboration Development: 

  • Identify, negotiate, and create fundraising opportunities that may include joint programs, cause marketing, and other revenue-driving initiatives as opportunities arise.
  • Engage with key donors to understand their needs and goals, and tailor request proposals to incorporate those needs while maintaining the integrity of MOC’s programs and company culture.

Cross-functional Leadership: 

  • Collaborate with various internal teams, including program, partnerships, marketing, and operations departments, to ensure the successful execution of fundraising deliverables.
  • ​​Work closely with the marketing team to create a comprehensive communications plan and execute successful fundraising events.
  • Collaborate with and lead the Nominating and Onboarding Board Committee and work with Board members to identify and cultivate new Board prospects.

Performance Tracking: 

  • Establish revenue benchmarks and track progress against these metrics, providing regular updates in the quarterly board reports.
  • Forecasting revenue projections on a monthly basis
  • Report organization-wide fundraising progress and results during Board meetings

Leadership: 

  • Represent Musicians On Call at industry events, conferences, and networking opportunities to enhance visibility and establish the organization as a thought leader in the brand and nonprofit sector.
  • Maintain an efficient line of communication with the President & CEO to make certain that they remain intimately involved in all high-level decisions. 
  • Lead and manage the Partnerships and Fundraising Departments as well as grow their skills and knowledge.
  • Participate in the creation of a new strategic plan for 2026-2030.
  • Model the company culture and brand values: community, excellence, compassion, innovation, and inclusivity; set the tone for a positive work environment.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, nonprofit management, or a related field
  • 15+ years of experience in nonprofit fundraising
  • Proven track record of success in growing fundraising revenue
  • Excellent communication and relationship-building skills
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Fluent in Salesforce and other fundraising software
