Job Summary

Job Goal: Working closely with the President, The Chief Advancement Officer is directly responsible for creating advancement initiatives that secure the financial resources necessary to achieve the school’s strategic short-term and long-term goals. This individual must understand and embrace the school’s mission, goals, programs, and needs and represent these to various school stakeholders through appropriately designed and managed programs. The ideal candidate will promote, support, and live the school’s Christian mission.

Classification: Full-time, 12 months, Exempt Position. Requires occasional evening and weekend work to assist with special events.

Job Responsibilities

Performance responsibilities:

  • Provide visionary leadership and strategic direction for the advancement program. Manage all fundraising initiatives for the annual fund, capital improvements, endowment, estate and planned giving, and alumni/parent engagements.
  • Identify, cultivate, solicit, and steward major donors and prospects to grow, strengthen, and nurture the donor base.
  • Establish and execute forward-thinking programs that optimally grow the annual fund, capital campaigns, and planned and major giving.
  • Maintain a portfolio of leadership donors to various funds, including the annual fund, capital projects, restricted scholarships, and event sponsorships.
  • Develop and enhance relationships with area businesses and organizations while building new relationships, systems, and programs that tap into the community’s generosity and resources.
  • Develop long-range plans for current and prospective donors’ involvement in the life of the school. Match school needs with benefactors’ philanthropic passions and goals.
  • Manage the tracking of endowment funds, including background information on donors, fund purpose, gift amount, market value, and use of funds. Provide donors with annual reports on endowment performance, the fund’s market value, and the use of endowment income.
  • Lead and mentor all advancement team members and evaluate staff on key performance indicators. Ensure appropriate assignment of projects and adequate support for the performance of duties.
  • Work closely with the Director of Marketing and Communications to develop a compelling case for support with specialized and targeted solicitation materials.  Collaborate on the annual report, magazine, social media posts, and website content.
  • Work collaboratively with the President, the Board’s Development Committee, and the Board of Trustees to develop and implement the fundraising strategy.
  • Oversee the planning of cultivation events.
  • Supervise and participate in designing and implementing the annual alumni relations plan.
  • Oversee donor and prospect management system (Raiser’s Edge NXT).

Qualifications

  • An active faith life and membership in a Christian church.
  • Experience in strategic planning, advancement, donor cultivation, or other aspects of a comprehensive advancement program.
  • Experience and confidence in connecting with community members and creating relationships connected to the organization’s mission, projects, and more.
  • Expertise in project management: prioritize multiple requests and meet deadlines.
  • Strong financial competence in budgeting and revenue goal-setting.
  • Proven ability to inspire and secure all levels of donations and gifts.
  • Understanding of and passion for the school’s mission and values and an ability to articulate this internally and externally.
  • Understanding of and ability to work with planned giving instruments, endowment protocols, data-driven strategies, and analysis of outcome measures.
  • Knowledge of and desire to keep abreast of current advancement strategies and tools.
  • Ability to build productive relationships with various constituency groups.
  • Model a leadership style that is open, supportive, collaborative, and respectful of staff.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in building and leading successful teams.
  • Respect for the importance of confidentiality.
