Job Summary
Works under the supervision of a licensed occupational therapist (OT) to provide occupational therapy services to children from birth to age 21.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Competently identifies the occupational therapy needs of the child by gathering, disseminating, and interpreting data to establish child-centered goals.
- Assists the supervising OT with patient re-evaluations and goal setting to develop a plan of care that optimizes patient engagement in the therapeutic process.
- Implements patient-centered and evidenced-based interventions that are consistent with the plan of care and support progress toward established goals.
- Evaluates the effectiveness of interventions using evidence-based assessment tools to determine if modifications to the plan of care are needed.
- Assists the supervising OT with fabricating splints and other equipment as therapeutically needed and appropriate to reach goals.
- Reports information and observations to the supervising OT.
- Assists in instructing patient and family or guardian in home programs as well as care and use of adaptive equipment.
- Communicates occupational therapy processes by documenting accurate and relevant information in the patient’s electronic medical record.
- Facilitates interprofessional team collaboration to provide comprehensive, evidence-based, and high-quality patient interventions.
- Adheres to professional and ethical codes of conduct and regulations.
- Performs routine self-assessment of current knowledge and skills to establish relevant professional development plans to enhance decision-making and competence.
- Attends meetings and conferences and participates in other activities to promote professional growth.
- Respects diversity through collaborating with the patient and family or guardian during the occupational therapy process to enhance patient-centered services and ensure continuity of patient plan of care.

Education and/or Experience
Associate’s degree or equivalent from a two-year college or technical school in a COTA program.
Computer Skills
To perform this job successfully, an individual should have basic computer skills and the ability to learn new software and web-based applications such as electronic medical records.
Certificates, Licenses, Registrations
Active and unencumbered Tennessee State COTA license and American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) Provider certification with skills testing required; HIPAA certification encouraged.
