This position is responsible for screening patients and providing direct patient care and related support, including routine patient education and counseling, and selected outreach services while supporting and demonstrating Mercy’s values and philosophies in the accomplishment of our mission.
Job Responsibilities
Essential Functions:
Takes vital signs, obtains patient chief complaints; administers vaccines; collects necessary paperwork; assists with patient procedures. May perform specialized procedures, such as catheterization, phlebotomy and simple wound care, under strict protocol and procedural guidelines.
Works with the primary care team to contact patients concerning appointments, lab results, and follow up on referrals.
Sets up, cleans, and disinfects exam rooms and medical equipment and maintains stocks of medical supplies as necessary. Practices safety, environmental, and/or infection control methods.
Actively participates in care center protocols including HIPAA, universal blood and body fluid precautions, etc.
Must report to work on time, maintain acceptable attendance and perform other duties as assigned.
The successful candidate will:
- Possess excellent interpersonal/communication skills
- Obtain a Basic Life Support (BLS) certification within 90 days of employment at Mercy (done in-house).
- Demonstrate excellent interpersonal and clinical skills, and the ability to work with a wide variety of people.

Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications:
Education: High School diploma or equivalent; Certification as a Medical Assistant required. Successful completion of Mercy Community Healthcare Caregiver Training and all applicable competency checklists and exams; meets any additional requirements/certifications as determined by internal policies/protocols and/or state regulations
Experience: Computer and keyboard skills preferred; must be able to effectively communicate the English language verbally and in writing; select bilingual skills preferred in areas where there is a need to communicate with bilingual patient population. Must possess a BLS certification or become certified within 90 days of employment.
