Job Summary

The Journey Home is seeking a part-time Business Manager interested in helping our organization expand
its ministry to our homeless and disadvantaged neighbors in Rutherford County, Tennessee. Founded in
2006, we’ve provided resources for basic needs, housing, life skills, faith-building and coordination of care
for thousands of struggling individuals and families to bring hope and encouragement on their journey to
wholeness, economic stability, and reintegration into community life. We are a faith-based organization
looking for a person who is passionate about serving God through their work. This is a new position due to
our growth, and this new team member will help shape the role for the future.

Job Responsibilities

Business Manager

The Business Manager will provide and oversee accounting and administrative support for the organization and work with the Executive Director and leadership team to meet program and reporting needs.  The business manager will also maintain records and manage compliance with regulatory or funding agencies.  The Business Manager will report to the Executive Director.

 

The Business Manager will, directly or through volunteer staff:

  • Process timesheets and payroll weekly and maintain personnel records
  • Manage accounts receivable and accounts payable and general accounting functions for all programs
  • Prepare draw reports for reimbursement grants and submit to funders on a monthly basis or as needed
  • Prepare financial performance reports for funders, as necessary
  • Reconcile bank and credit card statements
  • General oversight of the QuickBooks system
  • Maintain financial records in an organized and orderly manner
  • Prepare and submit tax documents and payments
  • Provide general financial reports for Executive Director and Board
  • Work with the Executive Director and leadership team to develop annual budgets, provide budget reporting monthly leaders can plan and manage expenses
  • Work with external auditors to complete annual audit
  • Implement financial policy and recommend additions or adjustments to meet the needs of the organization and clients
  • Coordinate the activity of administrative volunteers
  • Other administrative support, as needed

Qualifications

Professional Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, or business management with experience working in QuickBooks and Microsoft Office programs
  • Basic knowledge of payroll, tax requirements, and financial reporting for non-profit organizations
  • Strong written and oral communication skills and a positive force in a team environment
  • Careful attention to detail
  • Passion for the mission and commitment to the guiding principles and values of the organization
  • Effective organizational skills:  planning for and meeting deadlines, coordinating office volunteers
  • Ability to assess needs of team members related to finance and construct programs, reports and activities to support those team members
  • Solid computer/technology skills

This is a part-time position requiring approximately 20 hours weekly.   Weekday schedule to be determined.
