Job Summary
Reporting to the Facilities and Transportation Manager, the Bus Driver will be responsible for safely transporting youth to and from PTM, fostering a safe environment on the bus, and maintaining accurate records to ensure safe operations at all times. The PTM Bus Driver will directly live out the mission of PTM each day by providing an environment that provides significant opportunities for youth to experience “joy-filled friendships” and to pursue their “God-inspired dreams.” All employees at PTM should represent the organization well to children and their families, volunteers, supporters, and the community.
The Bus Driver is a part-time role generally working:
Hours: Approximately 12-20 hours per week depending on your availability
Specific work schedules will vary by site. Hours will be determined by the Property and
Transportation Director and approved by the Executive Director.
Job Responsibilities
- Transports children safely to and from PTM; fosters and maintains safe environment; and drives route accurately and efficiently;
- Observe and obey all traffic rules and regulations; follow and obey all policies and procedures to ensure efficient transportation and delivery operations. Follows assigned safety rules and inspects bus for safety items before each afternoon run by following PTM guidelines as well as all Federal, State, and Local rules and regulations pertaining to the safe operation of a bus.
- Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections, always checking for students who might remain on board. Notes any damage to the vehicle and communicates regularly with the Transportation Manager about any alterations to ensure safe vehicle operations for PTM.
- Sweeps, cleans, and washes vehicles; removes lost or leftover items from bus and returns to lost and found when applicable; and maintains clean and sanitary environment to ensure a healthy and safe atmosphere.
- Maintains accurate and up-to-date records and route descriptions; inspects vehicles regularly and performs basic maintenance functions in order to maintain professional and safe transportation.
- Monitors children, coaches, and instructs in according with PTM rules and guidelines.
- When required, meet with Site Coordinators and children to solve behavior issues that may arise.
Qualifications
- Education: High school diploma, GED, or equivalent.
- One or more years of related experience as a bus driver
- Valid Tennessee Drivers’ License
- Possess knowledge and understanding of the developmental stages of a child.
- Behavior and classroom management skills
- Ability to relate effectively to diverse groups of people from all social and economic
segments of the community.
